It started of with more people than expected as a pub crawl came through early in the night which was a nice for the opening act. Covalent hit the stage and started off with a melodic instrumental and I think it confused the people not used to one of my metal shows and perhaps I should have warned them prior too of what was to come. Covalent's second song blistered and a few of my regulars decided game was on and it was time to "get in the F*ckn pit!" Now personally I don't know what you are thinking when you stand in the "pit" area when there is mosh music playing then you complain cause someone bumps into you. Maybe you should pay a little less attention to yourself and actually look at your surroundings when you enter said area....mmmm really loud music with hella screaming and people both guys and girls in leather jackets and wicked long hair .... must be polka time ... NOT....after Covalent finished their set which was chalk full of killer changes and wicked musicianship I made sure to let the "confused ones" know just what was going on and made sure to let them know that "Moshing could happen....IT'S A FUCKIN METAL SHOW!!!"

Next up was Lethal Halo and they have gained a new fan. Wicked riffs, excellent front guy, solid drumming and guitars and really wicked vocals!!

after a bit of a change over next up was Scimitar then Reaver...I am going to talk about these two bands together because they to me are the yin and yang of Metal! Completely complex, completely tight, just a metal lover's wet dream. If you are a true metal fan and haven't seen either of these bands and you live in Victoria all I gotta say is What the Fu*K is wrong with you! The crowd feeds off both bands' high on stage energy (both bands always come off the stage soaked to the core after giving you every fiber of themselves during their show) and the moshing is intense to say the least...It was great to see such awesome crowd support these four awesome acts....thanks again to Reaver and Scimitar helping out with this one on short notice I will just end off by saying you were all F*cking EPIC!!! - Fri, 18 Mar 2011 6:41am

That's what happens when a pub crawl of vain chicks and arrogant douchebags comes to a metal show. Too bad they don't realize that we will actually stand our ground :P - Fri, 18 Mar 2011 4:22pm

Whew, now THAT was an epic Thursday night show. A really impressive turnout and people rocked the fuck out until the very end! HUGE thank you to Joe for putting this show on and also to Covalent, Lethal Halo and Scimitar for making this one of the most 'complete' bills I've ever played on.

I was anxious to hear Covalent (it's nice to have a new addition to the Vic metal scene) and thought it was absolutely hilarious when the pub crawl filled the place up. People were dirty dancing, fist pumping and jigging around in the middle of a mosh put and it was CLASSIC. A friend tried to mosh but was stopped by some of the meatheads who just wanted him to chill out so they could sneak up behind smutty girls and grind them. Covalent was alrgely undeterred by this as they cranked out tunes that reminded me quite a bit of if Alexisonfire and Glassjaw had a heavier baby. Lots of variations on riffs and a general beefiness all around. I look forward to seeing them again!

Lethal Halo was up next and switched the gears more into the accessible melodic death metal realm. I really enjoyed the riffing and dynamics that came from this band. They keep their songs exciting and it doesn't ever get stale. Vocals varied from singing to screaming so that added an interesting dynamic to the assault. I was enamoured with the Jeff Loomis 7 string one of the guitar players was wielding. Also, this was the first time (strangely enough) that I've witnessed a female guitar player tearing up the stage, it was awesome!

Scimitar played an epic set, bathed in the glow of the red lights (did I mention I really like playing V-Lounge due to the sweet light show and the large-ish stage?) and with the crowd packing the place. Unfortunately for me I was confined to the pool table room practicing for our set (since I had had a few and I started worrying that I'd forgotten how to play guitar and our set). From all accounts I've heard they played a tight and brutal set. I'll have to check them out again since I want to hear how the inclusion of a new keyboard player stands up live.

I'm not going to review my own band but I must say I felt it went rather well and I was blown away by the crowd response. At the end of the set the stage was filled with spilled drinks, broken glass, sweat and blood. I've also heard numerous reports of broken fingers, major bruising and glass stuck in various aprts of the body haha... all signs of a great show! - Mon, 21 Mar 2011 10:00am
