But me and my friends were playin metal/hardcore/jazz/spazz long before we ever heard dillinger. Maybe they started it for you. Personally I cant listen to this band for more than a song or two. | ScottL User Info... | The second to last song was kinda wierd. Best song is probably song 8 though. Song 10 might be explained by the fact that for this album they made it their goal to write some more simple melodic songs. That said, as an article says, it was MORE difficult to write a simple melodic song than to go crazy and all out, maybe song 10 is their opus of simplicity? I think song 10 is hilarious: I found Dillinger a bit of a shock when I first heard them, I know there are some bands out there like Dillinger, but it's not what I'm used to hearing, so yeah, Dillinger was out of the ordinary, and then song 10 comes along, and then it just throws me more because it's unusual for them and usual for others... | The One After Two User Info... | I gave it another go. I found the disc very abrasive but started to enjoy some aspects. Track 5, "Phone Home," I think its called is very haunting! Track 10 was a very odd track. I hear a lot of NIN on there too... but maybe I find any band that uses those computer type thingies sounds like NIN... - Sat, 18 Sep 2004 6:01pm | ||
| Zippgunn User Info... | After a quick run through I think this album shows real growth, something that a lot of "metal" bands don't seem capable of. I'll admit that I'm a fan of this style of metal (Coalesce, Burnt By the Sun, Locust etc.) and I applaude this band's attempt to create more song-like works. There is a lot more melody and more actual "singing". Of course there is the by now obligatory short "ambient" song and the package includes the most infuriating booklet in the history of the Digipack (took me 10 minutes to get it back together right) with minute white print in light green on an endless accordion card. One caveat for old farts like me who have no time for the antics of modern metal bands on stage is the DVD which featues a whole lot of bad poo and fart jokes (in the "Making of Miss Machine" video)and the idiotic sequence during the first song where the band sets the whole stage on fire (wow, that's never been done before). Also the audio on all the live stuff is pathetic, reducing what is visceral and powerful on the album proper to a bunch of chaotic noise accompanied by a lot of posturing and , I'll admit it, a pretty decent light show. But c'mon, is metal really about light shows? I'm going to file the DVD and play the album again. Loud. - Mon, 20 Sep 2004 12:26pm | ||
