Cody's back was mis-diagnosed last year.
The medical staff discovered a missed torn muscle that has since been healed.

Hodgeson will be an NHL Captain one day.
He will be on Canada's future Olympic teams.
He will challenge Taylor Hall for rookie of the year award.
He was far and above better than Tavarres at the World Jr in 08.
He is a sound positional player, defensively responsible. He gets powerplay time, penalty kill time, and top line time. He is a set up man that can finish.

OHL player of the year.

He is possibly the best draft prospect the Canucks have ever had.

A sure thing. - Wed, 8 Sep 2010 8:07pm

hey TC .. i'd love for you to be right but were talking about a kid who missed almost the entire junior season last year and still has not played an NHL game and only a handful of AHL games.

I know, I know, but this is the exact reason I'm sure. Gillis said all of the medical trainers were focused on a swollen disc in his back. As a result, they all missed the fact that he had a torn muscle. Since discovering the torn muscle, they have been able to treat it. He should be 100%.

" Gillis also said the back issues were related more to a torn lower back muscle than to a disc issue."

I watched him in jrs, and he really is THAT good.
Try to remember that he was only drafted in 08. Only 50% of that year's first round draft class has played any NHL.

A healthy Cody will be comparable to any top young rookie in the league. - Thu, 9 Sep 2010 2:27pm

thats where I don't quite agree.. he will be comparable to other juniors who have just missed an entire year of hockey.
I seem to remember him having other injuries out of his first canucks camp as well.

i'm all for developing players before throwing them into the NHL.. but that usually means a year or more playing PRO hockey.. not junior. - Thu, 9 Sep 2010 3:29pm

Good points for sure.

Just to be clear, I am not at all basing my Stanley Cup predictions on whether or not Cody Hodgson makes the team this year.

No more Bulis', Chounards, Pyatts, or Berniers.

Solid , hard hitting Defense.

Solid, hard hitting, talented, gritty, bottom six.

Solid Goalie tandem

Not one, but, TWO Sedins

If Cody makes the team, it will just be icing on the cake. - Thu, 9 Sep 2010 5:48pm

Luongo better have it together, especially for the play-offs

It's a good thing Luongo's no longer captain - he can focus more on his game now, and contend with a lot less interviews, which he often sounded defensive. Sure, the media will ask their stupid questions, but with all the whining he was doing, I thought, "man, get the C off his sweater".

I'm a Flames fan, so it hurts me to say this, but...I have to say, the Canucks have as good a team as any in the NHL this year. Could very well be their year if they get lucky with injuries and get championship goaltending from Luo.

Hodgson still isn't a necessary piece of the puzzle. Wouldn't expect him to be an NHL-level contributor for a couple of seasons yet. Great player, but he's coming off a season where he barely played, and he's going to need some time with the Moose to find his professional legs. He had a slipped disc and a ruptured A4 from what I remember, so they're gonna have to handle that kind of injury with serious care or risk ruining a promising career early. Hansen continues to develop into a real solid player, and Morrison is having a great camp, so that pushes Hodgson pretty far down the depth chart for now. - Mon, 27 Sep 2010 5:40am

Admit it: if you were even remotely as much of a fan of the team as myself I KNOW you would have the exact same feelings this June. Flamers fans have been around for, at the most, 25 years, while the Canucks fans - much, much longer. So then obviously, to finally win a cup would be something kinda special, right? Actually Mr Rocker just to call you on that, it always pisses me off everytime the Flames come to Vancouver how the crowd chants, Calgary Sucks! So I think you guys actually invented that bullshit. But speaking of bullshit, I'm not sure when you guys started the "woo" after a goal announcment in Rogers arena but the Bruins have been doing that at home games since I was a kid. ( A long time then ) Get your own gimmick, posers. You know like ONE guy who can sing both anthems perhaps. ps yes the hit on Raymond looks mighty suspicious and I dont want to see anyone get seriously hurt. I think Boychuck deserves some type of penalty I just dont know what cause I havnt really seen it too well. Enjoy the game tomorrow. - Tue, 14 Jun 2011 8:33pm Edited: Tue, 14 Jun 2011 8:37pm

But doesn't Calgary deserve those calls? (JUST kidding).....No other teams came up with the white towel (as a surrender can that bring down ANY team - shitty reffing) And come on - the anthem shit? That moustachio-ed fuzznuts in Boston showing off the lining of his jacket before puking through the anthems? At least our fat guy gets the crowd singing - gimmick two. Who gives a smurf about the Rick Flair call. I figured Salo will get a goal tonight - he's gonna slap in a big rebound from the hashmarks, midway through the third period. I will bet anyone 45 cents on this.
Happy drinking. - Wed, 15 Jun 2011 4:57pm

cool - I could really use some Hate Eternal and Origin to cheer me up. I tried your email address and cell number - couldn't reach ya.
And sure - the Bruins were missing Horton, but with us missing Hamhuis, Samuelson, and Raymond - our absenteeism was a heck of a lot more crippling, methinks. Nice that we got our core stars locked in for a couple years - we should be pretty strong contenders for the next few seasons.
And things could have been worse - Chicago could have gotten that overtime goal, and it would have been a heck of a lot better to lose to the Bruins than to the Lightning. (THAT wouldn't have happened, though). - Sun, 19 Jun 2011 8:48am

Jordan's having a house warming party the night before the show so some of us might be going over a day early. - Mon, 20 Jun 2011 3:42pm

The chant in Boston when Raymond went down was "Boychuk" IIRC.

Anyways, we choked. Everybody have fun at the riot?I would love to know if anybody saw any "anarchists" there because I sure didn't in 3 hours of watching 3 different camera angles. - Thu, 23 Jun 2011 1:09pm
