| superslacks User Info... | Looking for four guitarists and one drummer to form indie-rock supergroup. Must be slightly overweight, have a beard and wear glasses. Since this is a "Band" everyone should agree to dress similarly, so we will all be wearing poorly fitted grubby jeans or cords, baggy t-shirts (or long-sleeved collared shirts with the sleeves rolled up) and we'll take turns wearing the communal sweaters. One person will wear a toque, but not the balding guy because his thinning hair will be long and greasy. In performance we will rarely look at or speak to the audience; mainly because we're too shy to talk to girls, but we'll say it's because "It's all about the music". So no talking. Must be keenly aware that we are Artists creating only the most important music, so we don't have to worry about showmanship or musical ability. We don't have to worry about being creative either, because our post-modern view of art has made us cynical and firm in the belief that everything's been done. That being said, we'll still come up with some retarded micro-genre to occupy in hopes that it will garner some attention. Our first photo shoot will take place in this totally kick-ass apartment in Chinatown that my best friend's estranged dad lives in. It's cool because it's all run-down and arty with old camera gear strewn about and shelves packed to the ceiling with books. . . and a brick wall. Our first show will likely be at Logan's, and since we won't have our shit together by then we'll probably just bang out some covers by our favorite Indie Rock mentors; Death Cab For Cutie Said the Whale Built to Spill Guided By Voices Immaculate Machine New Pornographers Tegan And Sara Pavement Sebadoh Hey Rosetta! and on, and on, and on, and on . . . . - Thu, 27 May 2010 10:39pm Edited: Thu, 27 May 2010 10:39pm | ||

| superslacks User Info... | Well, if I wasn't making a joke about the over-abundance of self-important "calculated slobs" occupying a genre that used to describe hard working fringe popsters, but is now apparently an actual musical genre and a haven for mediocrity . . . | RobW. User Info... | Ah yes, that would be a good one. It's strange though, this is the only thread in the seeking musicians forum that would interest me in the least. Just looking at the top 20 posts in 'seeking musicians', you could probably make up at least 10-12 METAL bands. | superslacks User Info... | I don't disagree! Metal is one of those genres that has been uninteresting to me for a very long time. Mostly I get tired of the sausage-fest. But for the here and now 'Indie-Rock' has got to be the worst. I was just sent the EPK for this band; http://www.myspace.com/wiretree . . . and I literally screamed NOOOOOOO!!!! Beards, strummy fucking guitars, the works. I have no idea if the music's any good, because I was so unimpressed by the package. The problem (to me) is Promoters and Media pick this shit up because it's so inoffensive - could totally open for Tegan and Sara, new Pornographers, whatever. I could possibly get behind a musical project like that, but serious changes would have to happen (ban on beards for one). Then again, I have to believe the end is near for "Indie Rock" (the genre) - it's what gets me out of bed in the mornings . . . - Thu, 3 Jun 2010 1:39pm | ||
| Ping User Info... | If this was an actual wanted add I would apply. Minus covering most of those bands, or following any pre-conceived notion of what the band should dress act and look like. What the fuck is indie rock? Let's just say a rock band that try's too hard to convey a hipster-bohemian image. Most bands start out broke and end up broke. If you keep making music because you enjoy it who cares what you dress or look like. If bands want to spend a bunch of time on their image then by all means. It's just another form of art. | hoffa User Info... | I love this. Thanks for skewering the vary things that have been bugging me for a years. I just got back from Austin TX where all this shit is in hyperdrive. The greeter at the Magnolia Cafe had not only a ridiculous beard (= pube infested crumb catcher) but he twisted up the ends of his 'stache and wore a top hat. Nice fuckin' look buddy, all the girls into the homeless magician look will be all over that. I guess the more losers into this "trip" the better the odds for the partially groomed single person to get laid. Unless all the singles are into that unwashed human skin-oil scent clothed in fresh-off-the-floor, rumpled thrift store cast off clothing. "Pissed Jeans" indeed.
