I thought I'd chime in a little here as this show was one of my most anticipated events of 2010, and I'm happy to say I was not disappointed.

Unfortunately due to the crappy buses in Vancouver combined with a ticketing mixup (Livenation only sent me 4 tickets instead of the 5 that I had ordered) we missed Silversun Pickups set, which was a let down for sure.

Muse, on the other hand, were in fine form -- their stage setup, while not perhaps as much of a spectacle as U2 in their hayday (there were no flying lemons, for instance, though the bouncing eyeballs were perhaps a suitable replacement), was perhaps more tastefully executed, relying on a cool concept and neat visuals instead of simply being the biggest of everything.

They played a good long set full of their hits as well as a healthy smattering of some of their lesser-known but awesome songs, and unlike a lot of bands, they didn't seem to focus on their new stuff, choosing instead to play maybe 4 or 5 new tunes. I was surprised that they didn't play MKUltra though, as it is one of the best songs from The Resistance.

If I had one major complaint it was that the mix in the Colliseum was somewhat murky which made it difficult to hear much of Chris Wolstenholme's brilliant bass riffs, which to my mind is one of the definitive elements of Muse's sound. Even on bass heavy songs like Time is Running Out and Hysteria the big bass riffs were very muddily mixed and hard to pick out.

At the end of the night though, we had seen Muse play, and they played very well, and put on a show every bit worthy to name them the best live band in the world! - Fri, 2 Apr 2010 12:41pm

Sucks the sound didn't cut it, that'd drive me crazy.
How'd your tickets mess up? - Fri, 2 Apr 2010 1:12pm

Yeah, the sound definitely was a little disappointing, but its hard to expect too much out of an arena show that way.

The tickets were just annoying. I ordered 5 tickets from Live Nation the day they were available and they mailed them to us all attached, as per normal, with one ticket printed out as the receipt, so we had 6 actual ticket things, which seemed to add up.

Anyway, we got to the show and I divvied out the tickets and we realized that we only had 4 tickets, one receipt and one ticket with just our address printed on it. Obviously whoever had packaged them had counted 6 and said "Yep that's 5 tickets and one receipt".

So we had to go to the ticket office (while Silversun Pickups were playing) and wait for them to replace all of the tickets, which they seemed rather reticent to do, I might add. Eventually they did come back with 5 tickets but Silversun Pickups had just ended when we got in.

Annoying, to say the least. - Fri, 2 Apr 2010 1:43pm
