Okay I`ve seen threads for "best drummer" "best guitar" "best bass guitar", anyone have an opinion on best cover band? Remember even if you only believe that originals are the only way to go, there still has to be bands playing stuff people actually recognise and can dance to - Fri, 21 May 2004 12:31am

Whip is really good. I also liked the Shitty Beatles when they were around. They were masters of the medley, and I'm a sucker for a good medley. - Fri, 21 May 2004 5:17am

the turbonegro band and powerclown are both from vancouver. The turbonegro band is actually the Excessives, and Powerclown is a buncha guys from D.O.A., the Real McKenzies, Death Sentence, Scum Element and a few other bands. Yup Whip is the best from here for sure... now. But if you went back a few years, the Misfits cover band, the Astro Zombies, were amazing. The stage show they had was just unreal and they pulled off the tunes great as well. - Fri, 21 May 2004 11:47am

Anything is possible for cover bands. I even thought about learning a ton of songs from local bands which don't exist anymore (Red Tide, MoC, House of Commons, Drunktank, etc.), problem is, people don't like bands doing that. - Sat, 22 May 2004 11:55am

I'd be into an Alice IN Chains cover band.

I always am a sucker for Nearly Neil doing his Neil Diamond cover thing... so good, lots of cougars. - Sat, 22 May 2004 12:27pm

What are you talking about Griphin people love stuff like that, if it's done right. One thing I gotta tell ya just from a friends point of view is that you analyize things too much, just do it if ya wanna do it. I will say for future reference that I've been playing music most of my life and I would have a hard time with some of the M.O.C. stuff so good luck on that one. But if your going to cover them make sure it's Nocturnal Serenade, gotta play that one for Randy. - Sat, 22 May 2004 2:19pm

Mexican Power Authority liked to rip-off the opening passage of "Noc. Ser." as an intro for all our early gigs. How 'bout a Crucified Innocence cover band? What ever happened to them? - Sun, 23 May 2004 4:02am

holy crap! crucified innocence! total hair band, right? the mere mention took me back to that all day rock fest at providence farm about 10-12 years ago. all i can recall was a giant banner on the side of their budget rent-a-truck and a big stack of keyboards.

speaking of said festival alumni, what ever happened to the splatter boys? - Sun, 23 May 2004 4:40pm

I think Wave of Mutilation is the best Tribute band in victoria.

note, a tribute band is different from a cover band, because they only cover one bands stuff and they also dress like them. comparing cover bands and tribute bands is like comparing apples and oranges. - Mon, 24 May 2004 11:03am

wow, I was at that Shredfest at the farm way back when. I remember Crucified Innocence, this band called Coiler, Shutdown, Pressure Cooker, Dixie's Death Cab, Splatter Boys, a whole bunch more. Splatter Boys were my favorite band back then. Ynsain or however he spelled his name, he started a band here in Vancouver a little while back, and I can't remember what it is...played a gig at the Columbia with them I believe. Other guy was in Hudson Mack, AK-47, some others too. Wow, anybody have any Splatter Boys mp3s they could hook me up with? I lost my cassette years ago. - Tue, 25 May 2004 2:21am

fuckin a! Shredfest! Thats how ML7 came up with a name, trying to get a demo together to play Shredfest II, finaly we just took the name off our door, and we swore it was just so we could make the deadline and then we'd think of something better.. as you can see, we dont have any imagination and it never changed.

Ok, who wants to start a touring Dayglos tribute band? In a couple more years, maybe Jay Brown could be Bonehead, and Im sure we could get Wreaker as Gymbo..

After all, Dayglos just played their 'farewell tour' hahaha that one makes me laugh every time!@!@

If it's the same guy, he was Acorn Hell's bassist for 4 months back in '97 or so. Good guy, good bassist. Wonder what he's up to these days. - Thu, 27 May 2004 10:11am
