I hear he's been posting MP3s here: http://www.musicbuilder.net/music/bands/761/
under the name Solipsis.
His music has been described by Rolling Stone as "unusual chord changes and layered harmonies [getting] brutally ravaged by ethereal atmospheres, recreating the anal probing experience in its purest sonic form."
The moral of the story is that you should listen to the mp3s and post some feedback about them. That would be exceptionally fantastic. - Fri, 2 Apr 2004 8:53am

This guy is fucking amazing...so much talent. I wish Limestone was still around! He needs to get out there more, he has so much potential. The songs are great, as are his old ones. - Fri, 2 Apr 2004 11:50am

Sounds pretty frickin good. Sounds like he's matured a lot, musically since the Limestone days.

Any idea where he recorded this stuff?

guess he learned a thing or two about promotions while he was with Limestone...Limestone played at the Western Communities Youth Centre in the mid 90s and a couple of weeks ago I played during the same night at The Namaste Cafe. Very cool stuff and a confident and powerful songwriter, instrumentalist and vocalist. - Fri, 2 Apr 2004 11:41pm

Here is some more of his stuff:

I like the industrial stuff he does the best.. Eric is great at what he does. He records it all himself too!

We were thinking of recording a few Limestone tracks and releasing them to the public as a final "good bye". - Sat, 3 Apr 2004 10:31am

Adam Cynic, I think you definately should! I bet there are a lot of people who would like to get ahold of those songs. I have a Limestone cd from when you guys were like 13...the songs were even great then. - Sun, 4 Apr 2004 9:44am

First off:
i heard he went under the alias retrovertigo for all his promotional needs.
I doubt he'd do that. The fact that my displayed email address consists of his last and first name is purely coincidence, obviously. Why would he do that?

hey retrovertigo wasn't that Rolling Stone review actually credited to TOOL ?
You could be quite right. Tool has always been critically acclaimed for their layered harmonies and acoustic guitar playing prowess. I mean, they practically ARE the Beach Boys. I've never been able to distinguish between the two, personally.

And to everybody else -thanx for the response! It means a lot. I'll be sure to pass the message along! ;)

Just for fun, I'll post the rest of this message in first person as if I were Eric Hogg.

I'll probably be posting some new industrial/electronic music at musicbuilder.net pretty soon, though that album won't be finished for a long while yet.
The Solipsis recordings were all produced independantly on my computer, with the assistance of a Pro MVA Preamp/Compressor, and the invaluable aid of a TLM103 condensor mic. I'm thinking of starting a religion based around this beautiful piece of technology.
If anyone has questions or just wants to keep in touch, my email is [email protected]
And lastly: come one, come all to the Namaste Open Mic on any wednesday night, 8PM-midnight. I'll be hosting the event as well as opening and closing the night with my friend Dan Kosub. Admission is free, booze is cheap, food is good, and ages are all. If you are interested in playing, swing by Namaste and talk to either James or Jerimiah. They're in charge of all promo, and they're a couple of the friendliest guys you'll ever meet.
Once again, thanx for all the feedback! It's much appreciated. - Sun, 4 Apr 2004 1:18pm

are you simply retarded? eric, you know people aren't stupid when they read this post.
you don't have a name or email address in your info; i guess someone must have erased it, so that you won't lower your ego anymore than you have.
are you unaware that you have placed yourself in a trap; where everyone can see that you have to promote yourself in a self-absorbed manner.
plus i think that everyone would like to see some proof of this rolling stone review that you have claimed to have been the topic of. i'd like to see it, and please i prefer the originals where you haven't added your name.
you call yourself Solipsism, funny funny. i can see you calling yourself that. Solipsism- The theory that the self is the only thing that can be known and verified or view that the self is the only reality.
sorry if i have been mean, i must be having a good day!

Big Fucking deal. The music is interesting and obviously well thought out. How many great musicians have made eyebrow raising statements? For that matter, how many musicians have been misquoted as having made an eyebrow raising statement? I think the desired response here is a critique of the music. I think it sounds good. Unfortunately, there are a handfull of folks here who wait for an opportune moment to jump on someone's back. - Mon, 5 Apr 2004 11:16am

I think Eric was just playing around, as he posted under one of the looking for an accoustic act threads with that same screen name, & it's easy enough to change your screen name on these boards to something else, if he really cared to.
I really like his new stuff and he definitely has an entertaining act.
I'd love to hear some of those Limestone tracks, too. - Mon, 5 Apr 2004 12:02pm

Roar of Fire, thank you for input. Next time, please try to develop a sense of humor.

"eric, you know people aren't stupid when they read this post."
You contradict this statement further down in your post with this:

"i think that everyone would like to see some proof of this rolling stone review that you have claimed to have been the topic of. i'd like to see it, and please i prefer the originals where you haven't added your name."

Clearly at least one reader was too dense to understand the obvious irony of the "rolling stone" review. I really didn't think anyone would consider that to be anything other than a joke, but I guess I overestimated you. The real review is posted over at http://www.take-everything-you-hear-literally.com
See also: satire.

Also, I have checked "display email" after each post, so if it isn't showing up with my posts, that is a bug with the messageboard. In any case, my email address is posted at the site itself, as well as in one of my above posts. You can tell I'm trying REALLY HARD to conceal my identity.
My experience with this site is that everyone who posts about their music, or music of a band they like, gets thrashed. So I try to have fun with it. Rather than just saying "hey guys, please listen to my music posted over at ___", I try to attract peoples attention by making the invite silly or provocative in some way, and not taking it too seriously. In your case, it worked.
Thanx for checking out the site :) - Mon, 5 Apr 2004 12:17pm

you're music is very well produced IMO. i checked out your act at big fernwood, and you seemed a little nervous there.. but i'd love to check out your live act at namaste.

perhaps we'll talk about the old acoustic guitar. oh. - Mon, 5 Apr 2004 5:37pm

No worries, [+}. I kind of enjoy the opposition :) And thanx for production compliment. I hope you can make it out to Namaste!
I've decided there aren't enough variations of the phrase "thank you" in the english language. So to Eurydice and Ian: I'm honored and touched (in a completely non-sexual way...or AM I???) Hmmm, that sounded cheesy...but i mean it in all sincerity! I hope you guys can make it out to open mic as well. It'll be like a livevictoria community gathering, or something. I think I may try out the cover song I got my livevic name from. It's by Mr. Bungle, and it's been going around and around in my head since I started this thread. I figure the only way to end the madness is to play it at a live venue. - Tue, 6 Apr 2004 11:28am

Yeah that reminds me of that metal band called Gross Misconduct..I think. Anyone ever heard of them? From what I remember they're pretty rad, but I haven't seen or heard them in a while. Wouldn't that be like, totally rad if they played in Victoria, or anywhere for that matter, sometime soon? I also seem to recall their drummer being being this totally talented dude who all the chicks really love. It's too bad I dont know any of them personally, or I could ask them what they were up to. - Wed, 7 Apr 2004 9:26am

Yikes! Fer a second there, I thought you meant Gallows End. Now that band ROCKED!!!! Funny thing is, the only time I saw them live at the Fernwood, apparently that was the last time they played live. :( Man, if I only had 1/10th of that talent playing guitar I would rock the sox off a blue ox! Ah well, perhaps they'll reform (yeah right, and perhaps I'll actually play in a band :) - Wed, 7 Apr 2004 9:29am

Anyone heard those up-and-comers Mitochondrion????

What a load of shit! Ugly singer, faggotty bassist, and the rest of the band just screams retardation. And musically . . . do yourself a favour and listen to some real metal like Papa Roach, Chevelle, and, if you can hadle it, Linkin Park. - Wed, 7 Apr 2004 11:05am
