You mean they cant get a job at say, Subway, or Walmart or maybe at Dominos Pizza or washing dishes at San Remo's or somewhere? I think most of these women have hit bottom...maybe the people you know who hold down jobs haven't fallen that far yet. I also spent many years working at the Victoria Needle Exchange where I got to know many of the women who work in the sex trade here and in Vancouver. Many of these women are intellegent people who were trapped in life cycles that they could not alter.Most of them were introduced to hard drugs by long gone ex-boyfriends with habits themselves, the Bong Song "Girls On Dope" is about that scene. You would be suprised how fast you go from chasing the dragon to shooting up. The fastest growing group of new herion users is young women between the ages of 16-25. These women start early and have little to no employment or life skills, and in many ways they are simply not built for the 9 to 5 work a day world. Again , we are talking about a so called "crime" when really it is just another excuse to stick their noses in our personal lives. Legalize prostitution, regulate it, demand regular medical check ups, and you elliminate the "crime" and begin to free up the funds to provide HARM PREVENTION services to users and the homeless. It's not our society's job to tell people that they are right or wrong for doing anything to themselves as long as they are not a danger to others.All we can do is to tech people how to manage the harm and help them if they ask for it..
