| King Bong User Info... | King Bong is up for April�s band of the month on the Zone. But they aren�t up for anything on Brand X media �cause they burned all their bridges there. The June Music issue of Cannabis Culture magazine will feature an interview with Victoria�s own King Bong. Look for it at your local newsstands but you won�t find it on Brand X media �cause they burned all their bridges there! King Bong front man Sticky Kola will host a 2 hour radio special on CBC Radio 2 this Saturday night starting 12 midnight. The show will look at 10 local up and coming music acts including Moneyshot, Meatlocker 7 and Greenlaw Avenue. Listen for it on CBC. Unfortunately you won�t hear about it on Brand X media �cause they burned all their bridges there King Bong will be featured on CH�s Go magazine coming up the third week of March. Watch for it on Channel 6 �cause you won�t see it on Brand X media �cause they burned all their bridges there Silly Dreamers is to shoot a documentary on what it means to be an independent band based on the experiences of Greenlaw Avenue and King Bong. Look for it on the documentary channel date to be announced. But nobody is documenting anything about them on Brand X media why? | A*Funk User Info... | Well, ya see XY, Every time a band gets started, they immediately get boxed in to a genre and classification scheme that is designed by the Man to market them better. This box determines how they sound, who they appeal to, what they look like/sound like/act like/write songs about, and often the sort of success they're gonna have. They're in this box largely because they've spent their whole lives being boxed in by the Man as music consumers. As consumers, we get to choose: what sort of cultural discourse do we want to participate in? once we choose, the Man decides the rest. Marketing schemes determine what we listen to, what clothes we wear, what people we hang with, what things we talk about, ultimately what choices we make, on the basis of the type of music we tune in to. Once we join a band, we participate in re-constructing that genre (aka marketing scheme). King Bong is about trans-box-al intersubjectivity: reaching across marketing boxes (aka genres) to recognize others' perspectives on culture while reaffirming our own. We're breaking down the boundaries of cross-genrefication. And we're damning the Man and building community at every show.
