Hey everyone, i'm very happy to announce the Pixies (who have reformed, in case you're outta the loop) will be playing on April 21st at the Curling Club!!

Unfortunately i don't know when tickets go on sale..

Details about the tour (their first show will be in Winnipeg!) at http://www.FrankBlack.net . Check out the Forum there if you wanna chat with other FB/Pixies fans. Say hi if you're from Victoria as well.

Peas out,

- Dave

Great band, actually they are one of the bands that got me through that horrible period called the 80's!
It otta be a good show!

Thanks for posting our article Dave, and great work on Frank's website. But I would be remiss if I didn't mention that we knew about this show sometime around November, but were asked very nicely to keep it quiet from several sources, including the band's management -- which, out of respect, we did until today when they confirmed it. In any case, it will be great to see the band here.

All I can say is that we should get down on our hands and knees and thank Frank Black for deigning to visit our town. The Pixies are quite possibly one of the most influential bands of our modern time. Kurt Cobain once said that he could only hope to aspire to be as good as The Pixies. Everyone should try to see this show!!!! - Tue, 10 Feb 2004 2:43pm

I am one half of the promotion team who is putting on 7 out of 8 of the Pixies shows in Canada. None of the shows are "sold out". All 8 shows go on sale this Saturday Feb 21st between 9:30 and 10:30am depending on the outlet. The Commodore shows are primarily being sold through Ticketmaster, with a few tickets in the record stores.
If you have a band and would seriously like to open for The Pixies, please send me an email. But ultimately, The Pixies will decide who the opening bands will be and it is probable that there will not be room for a local band at all. - Mon, 16 Feb 2004 10:16pm

ok, so many questions:
McPherson box office will sell the bulk of the Victoria tickets and you can buy from them in person or over the phone. Tickets will be slightly cheaper at Ditch and Lyle's; no official limit on # of tickets per person in Victoria but in other cities where Ticketmaster is involved, the limit is 8 tickets per person. All cities are through TM except Victoria and Saskatoon. None of the shows are reserved seating and all are all ages except Vancouver which is 19+ both nights.
hope this helps... - Tue, 17 Feb 2004 10:18am

MalcolmSOS, thank you SO much for all the info. Looks like I'm driving up to Victoria Friday night from Seattle to make sure I can get some tickets. Two quick questions, if you don't mind:

1. You said they go on sale between 9:30 and 10:30 depending on the outlet. Which go on sale when? I'm planning to get Victoria tix in person while having friends at home try to get Vancouver tix (both nights), so those are the ones I need to know about.

2. For the Vancouver tix through Ticketmaster, do you know if they'll be available through US Ticketmaster outlets? Like, can I walk in to Tower Records and buy them? And can I use ticketmaster.com, or would it be ticketmaster.ca? I know these seem like insane questions, but I wanna make sure I don't miss out! - Tue, 17 Feb 2004 10:47am

Interesting, we all assumed Winnipeg was reserved seats since almost everything at Burton Cummings theater seems to be that way. Guess I gotta book my flight for earlier now to get a good spot!

Moi aussi... after I got mine, as a good soul, I tried to tell the people desperately lined up at Lyle's (for the 100 tickets they had) that there wasn't a lineup at Ditch (for their 100 tickets). There was probably 50 people in the Lyle's line and you were allowed to buy 4. Doin' some quick math I figured there wasn't a chance in hell that anyone outside of the first 25 or so people were gettin' a ticket. Did anyone heed my advice... 2 smart guys did.... The rest just stood there like sheep.... The funniest excuse I heard for their lack of action was from some girl, who said in a whiny nasally voice, "...but Ditch opens at 11...." Actually they opened at 10:30, and they had 100 tickets that no one else was lined up for... i think the seattle folks may have included vespa59 from the frank black forum. i had the feeling it was him. but i talked to the girl who was with him and asked her and she didn't know what i was talking about......but yeah, they drove up from seattle and got there the previous night sometime after 9 or so.

Hey, doesn't anyone read Mike Devlin's thoughtful articles and musical musings? Tickets were also on sale at the Royal, and at 9:30 Saturday there were only about 20 people in the line-up there. Half of them were buying Colin James tickets (including, I trust, Mr. Robin Adair). Although I talked the Colin James fan ahead of me into buying four. I apologize to any Pixies fan who didn't get tickets because of me. Mr. Colin James fan: "What do they sound like? What genre would you compare them to? Are they like Nirvana?" Me: "Um, maybe Nirvana crossed with R.E.M. (I couldn't think of any other bands he would know) Catchy, quirky songs with heavy guitar. Trust me, if your girlfriend likes Dido, she'll like The Pixies."

I saw The Pixies twice in their hey-day. Musically they were tight, but Frank just seemed so damn bored. Kim is joy to behold though, and I'd see her in Victoria even if it was in Abbamania. Aw hell, it'll be good. Maybe they'll even play Cactus. Why does every second thing I read on The Pixies cite Doolittle as their best? Have those people never heard Surfer Rosa?

Yep !

...and then he say "hey there's no one at the royal"

Oh fuck I say out loud and run to my truck with about 6 other people doing the same all meeting at the royal , 16 people in line things moved slow but I was in luck !!

Now Ive been asked by two sets of people who are real fans and each has reasons why they need the tickets, so fuck I guess Ill be a asshole now matter who I choose ? ;)

or if I can get the right price ????. ok Im a fucking asshole . - Mon, 23 Feb 2004 12:35pm

As Dave Noisy already alluded to, the Saskatoon show now has a larger capacity (double it's original size) so there are quite a few tickets available for that show still. Every other show is now sold out. If anyone who didn't get tickets wants to travel and doesn't want to pay some crazy scalper price, go see the show in Saskatoon on Saturday April 17th (tickets through Ticketmaster). - Mon, 23 Feb 2004 1:30pm

I guess I'll post the reason why I need tickets on the slim chance that someone will take pity on me.
I went to Vancouver to see the Pixies in 92(I think) at The Commodore. They were just finishing up their tour with U2 and decided to do a one off show. I was stoked because I was trying to get tickets to the U2 thing just to see Pixies(I hate Bono with a passion), but there was no tickets to be had. I went to the show at the Commodore, and was turned away. I was still six months short pf my 19th birthday. Damn. My friend got in.
It turned out to be their last show ever before breaking up.
Now someone have pity on an old bastard who needs a pair of tickets! - Tue, 24 Feb 2004 3:06am
