I awoke this morn realizing i had slept another night and missed another live punk show... The CHina Creeps. anyway I'm getting old and the couch sometimes feels a bit better than a live punk show.

So i reached into the library basket this morning and pulled out this CD called Eternal Light by Shankar, Hussain, and Vinayakram. WTF!!!! i know most of you readers are thinking, but sometimes some insane energy can be found in foreign music. This is Indian music. The first song is called Ragamalika. You know when you slip a Death Angel or a Cannibal Corpse CD in and you somehow go on a journey... well this Indian song did just that to me. With the sun shining in the window of my kitchen I listen the begging increments of this song, about 6 mins of traditional moaning violin and drums. Then about 7 mins into the song some intense bursts of drum beats that reminded me of the Olympian drumming of All-Father or HOA. A short slide just so you can recover then the tempo picks up to an insane speed with drums and an instrument that sounds similar to the fiddle. Epic speeds are reached and i found myself having to sit down just to fathom the construction of what was happening. 11:40 into the song you enter another realm that seems to take you into a downward spiral out of the clouds.... again building up a speed until you impact the surface of the ocean. Having landed on the water the music slows and you make your way back to the shore. On the shore you stand on the ground looking up into the sky with your arms open and nodding your head, One final spazzam of drum betas and the song is over..... clocking in at 14 minutes and 32 seconds.

the other songs on this CD are not quite as intense but deserve a listen in the right tone of day. The final song is 10 minuites of drumming that is very much worth the time. This isn,t like the stinky hippy drumming you used to see on the street corners this is Indian drumming. No stick just bruised fingers and all.

This Cd is available at the Library if you wanna check it out and comment on how crazy i really am.
