I've said this so many times, its just old and stupid now, but Tendonitis is so way by far my favorite band, even over Zuckuss. So nothing else really mattered much to me in the days before this show, because I knew and everyone I know knew that I was gonna be guaranteed MY night.

I think in their last show they tried out some newer stuff and took some chances that didn't come off with their regular "finesse" at a couple of points, but this time it seemed everything came off fluid & effortless.
Though I was so blissed out, who knows. A friend was saying that the drum sound suffered because Jesse's kit was turned to the side, but I'm never too focussed on technicalities like that when it comes to them. It sounds like they take a lot of care with their gear and I know a couple of them were pretty excited about some new stuff they'd acquired and were experimenting with... I'm sure it all added to what made that set great.

Like I said, blissed out. They used to be all precise and tight, and in recent years they've added all sorts of bend and serious groove to it, while still retaining all the complexity and understated variance thats their signature style. I'd never seen that bassist funk it up to the extent that Jesse does on his kit til recently, but with a personality as fucking cool as that on guitar holding it all down, its still committed, straight ahead Tendonitis as ever. I love them.
I don't know whats going on with me and this band, but for some reason, I just get it. When I feel like stopping, they stop, when they're about to wind up or change direction, I can feel it and my body knows it already - I think I only missed an ending once when I just wanted it to keep moving. Its like stars are align or something and that I'm exactly where I'm meant to be. :)
Although its a little worrisome that the band I totally get is Tendonitis, thats more than a little odd, haha.
Another favorite band of mine was goatsblood, and do you know, Tendo actually slowed it down to nothing like that at one point and made me realize that something they share in vastly different directions is that play with dynamics.. ebbs & flows.
Bliss.

I stayed after the show to say goodbye & thank everyone I was so happy (I near never do that!) and someone showed me some video that he'd taken, so I got to get into it all over again on his little 3" camera screen, and it was wicked! I really hope he puts it on youtube or something. I don't know how great the sound is, but you can hear all the staccato and pops and rhythms so thats enough right there to get into.
They let me upload to their band profile here a while ago, so if you want to hear some in decent quality - 2 songs up.
It was also Jesse's birthday last night , so I really hope they all enjoyed it half as much as I did!
Lots of my favorite people out... seeing my favorite band... at my favorite bar... thanks all! :) - Sun, 20 Sep 2009 7:51pm Edited: Sun, 20 Sep 2009 7:54pm
