Im sure youve already heard by now and some of you may have tickets, but metallica is charging 100 fucking bucks for their show in vancouver. now im sure all you working stiffs can easily fork out the 100 bucks for the ticket. but come on im sure everyone in metalica is multi-millionair and im sure that the record companie executives are probably billionairs by now so its fucking stupid to charge 100 bucks for floor seats. We live on an island its going to cost any who wants to go a fuck load of money for the ticket, ferrys, possibly a motel, booze and some food as well. so fuck 100 tickets, ill be at home listening to ride the lightning - Mon, 5 Jan 2004 6:13pm

Quit bitching. Welcome to the new Millenium. Do I wish the ticket was cheaper? Of course, but Metallica live is well worth the ticket price. I don't know many bands out there that can still draw a sold-out crowd every night soley to hear songs from 5 albums ago. They must be doin' something right. Why don't you just wait another 15 years and maybe you'll be able to catch them for $10 at the Galaxy in Duncan. - Mon, 5 Jan 2004 7:38pm

"one of the most technically sound bands to grace your young ears in a long time" I could care less what they've written in the past, they betrayed metal. There new album is a load of shit, they did it for money and that's it. I cant see them sitting around with that shit-pile of riffs and thinking "Man, we need to make this an album, it fucking smokes... I have another rad idea, lets purposely make the production poor, maybe we'll get some cred back" Fucking weak. And yes, Lars IS the worst metal drummer ever.

20 years ago I had the chance to see Miles Davis at the Queen E. The tickets were an absolutely outrageous $25!!! And he sucked, his band constantly showed off and they played Cyndi Lauper songs. Now he's dead. Am I glad I went? You bet. Do I ever listen to his record that has the Cyndi Lauper songs on it? Are you kidding? Just listen to Metallicas new release. Garbage. They used to be actually talented, yes. But now they use some sort of excuse to play shitty music "Oh we're Metallica, we're always changing!" Yeah one string songs that repeat over and over again, a real "progression" from what you used to play. They just can't admit that theyre old farts now that lost their steam. Now they might as well join Ozzfest with all the nu-metal trash.

And no, I dont care how "technically sound" they are. I bet Cher is fucking "technically sound" and she still fucking sucks, plus she's been around longer than Metallica. So who fucking cares.

i'm guessing that some diehard Metallica fan on this board is gonna be like "FUCK YOU NICK YOU ARE A POSER LOSER ASS FUCKING HOMO BLAH BLAH BLAH" i don't care, you're not going to miraculously change my mind. At this point in their careers why the fuck are they charging 100 bucks? That is bullshit!!!

You'd think they already have a pretty poor repetoire with their fans as it is; what with Napster and the amount of dick that St. Anger sucks.

For me to shell out 100 bucks for a show there better be some fucking unbelievable tour. I haven't paid more than $20 for a show since a was a little kid paying $45 for Korn and Rob Zombie (yes, I can admit that). - Tue, 6 Jan 2004 1:23pm

I have to agree that the first two LP's were great but then the songs got looooonger and less interesting. Then they put out a double album. The Garage Days EP's gave me some hope but once Hetfield decided he was a woman in a man's body I gave up. The Napster bullshit sealed the deal. The only reason these greedy twerps are charging a C note for a ticket is because they can't charge $200. No longer relevant IMO. - Wed, 7 Jan 2004 9:19am

How much were OzzFest '99 tickets again? I remember paying $65 or somewhere in that realm for, what was it? 21 bands. This included the original Black Sabbath, Slayer, Primus, Slipknot, Fear Factory, System Of A Down, Static-X, and to a lesser extent Rob Zombie, Deftones and a shit load of others.
Sure it was a few years ago, but even with inflation $65 for that many bands makes Metallica look like big-time con artists. Pay $100 this time and you'll be paying even more next time. Supply and demand, people. - Wed, 7 Jan 2004 1:03pm

I love everything up until and including Puppets. Justice seemed a little forced, but I still like most of it. Ride the Lightning is the reason I started listening to/playing metal. Hell even the Black album had a moment or two on it (I was 11 when it came out, at that time I thought it was cool). The seeds of sell-out-dom were certainly planted on that disc, but I mean how do you go from Black album to Load? I'll tell you how...Bob Rock. As soon as they hooked up with that idiot they went down the shitter. But, I did get to see them in 93/94? at T-Bird Stadium with Suicidal Tendencies (who at that point in their career were just starting to suck as well) and wow was it a rad show. Now they are merely a blip on the radar screen for me, but I will never deny their past relevance to metal music and to me personally. But while we're on the topic of muscial proficiency and ticket prices, how come I got the chance to see Primus play for 3 hours and only pay 45 bucks? Keep in mind this was October 2003. Doesn't seem that this "new millenium that's what a show costs" argument floats with me. And I would wager that Primus' visuals/stage show was way more intersting then what Metallica will offer, I could be wrong though. But I tell ya, Primus could play miles and miles around Metallica as far as musical ability goes. I know that doesnt matter to some, but it does to me when i go see a show. And Wreaker, I envy you for seeing them when they were still the shit. I assume Burton was still around at that time? - Wed, 7 Jan 2004 1:34pm

Boy are you right about Bob Rock; that double video of them recording the LP with "Enter Sandman" on it (which is played literally dozens of times in the video) is so revealing. The scene where they load the reels of tape into the van is hysterical; we froze the video and counted the reels as best we could, multiplied them by $200 a reel and came up with something like $30,000! For tape!!! Every song was spliced together from a million takes and for this surgery Rock reportedly recieved $1,000,000 from Electra. It was at least an object lesson in how not to make a record. IMO he sucked any life out of it that was there to begin with. - Wed, 7 Jan 2004 2:48pm

well hey......i saw that gig in vancouver in `86 and yeah they were still hungry and played a wicked show albeit they were like 23 at the time.....ive seem metallica about 7 or 8 times even though after i saw the black album tour i vowed not to go again but hey i ended up going anyhow
the re-load tour was in the round with this crazy stage that took up the whole floor and i think they are using that or a variation of it this time....COC opened that show and it was damn cool actually. their set lists of late are mostly all thier coolest stuff and they play two songs from the new disc and nothing from the load cds so they know what people want to see in a live show....hetfield just cant sing like he used to....oh well ...he developed polyps (or however you spell that)on his vocal chords when he recorded the black album. you usually cant sing the same again after that plus hes older
whatever i think it will be a great rock show
and contrary to what you might think they do listen to feedback about thier latest cd and they know the snare sux and that people were expecting more outa them
but they will never get it all back of course
im going because thier older tunes still do it for me even if the new ones dont
anyhow yeah.....if ya dont like the ticket price then stay home and read my review and if it sux ill be sure to tell ya
metallica were the reason i started my old metal band and id say hetfields playing influenced my riffs more than anyone c'ept sabbath so i dont owe it to them but i kinda owe it to myself to go check em out
cheers CC - Wed, 7 Jan 2004 8:27pm

The Mad Subwoofer
User Info...
Carpal tunnel is some _mighty_ serious shit and as much as that sniveller Mustaine annoys me (personality, not chops) I wouldn't wish it on anyone. My Pa started in on a few years of 'puter work and now has massive scars in the palms of both hands, where the doc' had to cut him open to get at his wrists...>shudder.<
If ANY of you ever feel numbness or tingeling in yer mitts....look into it.
