Hey we're looking for bands to play at the Social Lounge in Duncan. It's an awesome little venue that seats 130. We're mainly looking for metal, rock, punk, and alternative but we're pretty open to everything. The pay aint gonna great, you'll get your gas $$ and a bit more, but to us it's all about the music, that's why this venue exists. So if you're interested in playing here send us an email with your bands info (age, genre, website addy, etc...mp3's would be very much appreciated) and we'll try to hook you up eventually. The Winks are reworking pop music in ways that prove the initial rules were just an illusion anyway.

On paper, taking the already beautiful mandolin and cello augmented with boy-girl vocals, drums, sparse electronics and baritone saxophone is alone worthy of straight out adulation for its ace outside the box thinking.

Despite cabaret-style narratives and the loudest chords ever heard from a mandolin, The Winks are playful, quirky and arty in their simultaneous naiveté and brilliance.

Founding members, Tyr Jami and Todd Macdonald met at fishing camp when they cught the same fish and bumped into each other.

They began performing in 1999 as a classical cello & mandolin duo and then began writing songs and instrumental pieces.

The Winks have released 5 full-length albums, toured British Columbia and the Westen United States, scored two films,
showcased at the 2003 New Music West Festival and are currently planning a tour of Italy and composing for their next full length.

Their latest CD, Slippers and Parasol released by Swim Slowly Records
is available in select stores and on-line @ www.swimslowly.com

“Best New Vancouver Band: “So arty it hurts - in a good way”
-The Georgia Straight

“LABEL OWNERS looking for some more quixotic genius rock that sounds nothing at all like the New Pornographers?
Prepare to fall in love! They're just so cute you want to pinch their cheeks. But watch out, they slay on cello.”
-John Collins of The New Pornographers - www.matadorrecords.com/news

“The Winks are magical. Mandolin and cello majesty, Narnia-bound sweethearts… If I could be reborn as a fantasy love-child, it would be as a wink.”
-Terminal City

“With the intriguing wail of Bjork and the twee cuteness of Mirah, the Winks treat these influential chanteuses
as if they were exotic, lovely conjoined twins from the traveling circus – graceful and talented, joined at the hip.”
-Lost at Sea - www.lostatsea.net

“A unique musical treat…”
