Message Board > Up n' Coming! (aka Shameless Promotion) > New Confirmations for Victoria's 4th Annual Ska Festival |
ENIGMATICA ENTERTAINMENT | New confirmations are in for Victoria's 4th Annual Ska Festival! They will be posted on the web-site shortly. They are: THE KINGPINS (from Montreal) - Lorraine Muller and company are gonna rip it up as usual! (Stomp Records) http://thekingpins.com GO JIMMY GO!(from Hawaii) A nice ska/rocksteady/soul band that has played at Warped Tour 2002 and at this year's Ska Summit. They have received rave reviews from goers from each event. At the Ska Summit message they were said to be one of the best bands there. Here's a more detailed description from their web-site: Hawaii based Go Jimmy Go use Ska, Rock-steady and classic Soul as the foundation of their well crafted and instantly memorable sound. Supported by a strong rhythm section and integral horn lines, their songs are driven by the charismatic and uninhibited vocalist Jason Bison Friedmann. They carry a message to remove yourself and lose control bringing groove worshipers to their feet with joyous abandon. Their music reflects youthful innocence and the overdrive of love, passion, struggle and rebirth. Go Jimmy Go address the human condition with refreshing conviction and positive messages in the infectiously melodic and hook laden songs of their new CD, Soul Arrival. 2002 was a prosperous year for Go Jimmy Go. With overflowing demand to perform in their hometown of Honolulu, (average attendances of 700-1000) Go Jimmy Go made room for a 30 date Soul Arrival Summer Tour carrying them across the U.S. in June and July. The mainland run, which featured 16 dates on the Vans Warped Tour, wrapped up with a sold-out performance at L.A.s Whiskey A-Go-Go. The band returned home to play opener for No Doubt at the 6500 seat Blaisdell Arena. Soul Arrival which climbed the CMJ Top 200 all summer enjoyed a peak position of #83 as it made its way onto over 200 play lists across the nation. See the band at the Ska Summit in Las Vegas or on their spring tour 2003. http://www.gojimmygo.com JFK & THE CONSPIRATORS Formed in 1995, J.F.K. & The Conspirators is a 7 piece traditional ska outfit which has been dazzling fans and critics alike for over 5 years. They have consistently laid down the traditional stylings of ska music, taking influences from the early days of Ska, rocksteady and reggae. The conspirators have stayed true to these early sounds and created a warm and happy brand of music, which is easy to dance to for both the young and old Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, the Conspirators have been playing all across the country from small clubs to large halls opening for the likes of Bad Manners and The Selector. J.F.K. & The Conspirators signed to STOMP Records in early 1998 and soon after released their classic record entitled "Mayor of Ganja City". Upon the release of this record, the band went out on a national tour with label-mates Gangster Politics and The Undercovers from Halifax to Victoria, which spanned over 5 weeks. LOS FURIOS (from Vancouver BC) Los Furios are a local Vancouver 5 piece that blends ska, punk and reggae (among others) to bring you the best energy and fun you can have at a show. With the energy of punk and their blend between ska and latino flavour, you won't be able to keep yourself from skankin' to the beat!! MORE CONFIRMATIONS COMING SOON! ENIGMATICA ENTERTAINMENT | The Kiltlifters will be opening up for JFK and the Conspirators. The Hoochy Girls and the Bloodwarmers will be playing with the Operators @ Centennial Square. There will be one opener from Vancouver and probably a Victoria based band opener for Go Jimmy Go! in Centennial Square. The other confirmation (if that happens at) all is one you may not expect. Thus far the Curling Club show will be comprised of the touring bands and the headliner - The Slackers. With 5 bands playing at the Curling Club festival goers will see bands they wouldn't otherwise get a chance to see. Accomodating more would be very difficult time-wise as well. - Mon, 14 Apr 2003 6:40am | ||
