Thanks to all the bands for makin this show great, especially SI for fillin in last minute. And you fuckin idiots that paid to see these losers are fuckin awesome too! PENDEMIC opened things up with a SlipKnot plus sound. Very catchy, very heavy and the vocals were sooo strong. ENCHANTED FAERIES played second. They were great the first time I saw them but they somehow found a way to get even better. Good straight forward death metal but original sounding. Hard to do these days. Good mosh too. Then the famous CHOKEHOLD took the stage and immediately were signed to a huge record contract and lived happily ever after....uh lets move along...Then the strangest thing happened. In the time it took to get a beer Chokehold instantly morphed into SELF INFLICTED!!! (well actually due to time running out, SI jumped on stage to use CH's gear to give you wall to wall VIHC) SI were like fuckin Sepultura rolling Pantera and then takin on the mean streets of the New York Hard Core scene with fuckin tunes that wake the dead! well at least the sleeping whino in the back....... - Sat, 27 Dec 2003 11:32am

Too bad I couldn't make it to the show, I was in the studio so there was no dice on checkin you guys out (your band I mean). I also wanted to hear Self Inflicted. Pendemic and Enchanted are both solid acts so I would've loved to catch them. Let's hook up for a show on a night when Adrian doesn't have hair problems and we can make some metal mayhem! - Sat, 27 Dec 2003 2:55pm

What can I say all the bands put up a solid effort. If you missed Pendemic than your an idiot. The singer is one of the sickest singers I've seen in a while. Enchanted Fairies heavy, heavy, growly. And Chokehold the once the only. Too bad for those who missed it cos they were packed with some heavy punk/metal sounds that may never be heard again. The highlight of the night was watching my bro use this idiots head as a landing strip for both of his feet as he flew off the stage. Then when the dude tried to get up to hit him, I leaped over, mic in hand, and clocked him in the head. And rightfully so that fucker had it comin!!!! - Sat, 27 Dec 2003 5:16pm

Well, Pendemic was pretty Slipknot. Mask and all.

Chokehold were pretty damn good. Everyone I talked to at the show thought the same. Aarons vocals fit them really well.

Enchanted Faeries rule. Yup, go see em if you haven't they are a fun band with good tunes.

Self Inflicted are a tight hardcore band, and if you like that style then you would like them for sure. I like em better than hatebreed. - Sun, 28 Dec 2003 11:54am

this chris guy is fucking delusional. logan's is an awesome venue if you enjoy listening to music being piped through a 400 foot long cement tunnel while facing a wall in a dark room.
two mediocre "hardcore" bands in a row must have been quite the listening experience. i would bet most of the set consisted of feedback. - Sun, 28 Dec 2003 4:31pm

so you are telling me there was no perpetual feedback and the sound was as good as lucky bar or steamers or upstairs or legends or your ghetto blaster? you could hear all instruments evenly mixed and the vocals were clear and not intrusive on your ears without ear plugs?

I heard no feedback this time! Any feed back comin from us is controlled cos everyone gear is decent. As for the sound out in the crowd? I never heard any from the first three bands. As for the sound as good as Lucky I don't think so. And I did notice for the first time at Logan's that the vocals were louder and clearer than normal. - Sun, 28 Dec 2003 10:57pm

Only caught the first two bands (seen Self Inflicted before and not that interested in generic hardcore myself).

Pendemic were painful to sit through. When all of your influences are top 40 nu-metal acts I guess that's what happens. The vocalist was the only reasonable thing going for them (I thank the odds that there were no effeminate sing song breaks like that pooped out by most nu-metal acts). Hookless boring songs, extremely annoying wanna be rock star band banter (you guys related to Sonic Doom?), two Metallica covers, blech. Worst thing of all was that they played for what seemed like fucking ever. An opening band should not be taking up half the night, especially with 4 bands on the bill. A shorter, tighter set would have made them look much better. As it was it felt like being trapped in their jam space instead of being in Logan's for a fun night out. Whoever was running the show should have been on top of it enough to tell them to get the fuck off of the stage and let the rest of the acts get their proper slot.

Enchanted Faeries ripped. The drummer is a fucking machine (and I have intense respect for machines) and the dual guitar blast was awesome, especially with the manic solos and such. A pretty much perfect set, reasonable sound, decent stage presence, brutal and amusing as it should be. Definitely a band to watch. - Mon, 29 Dec 2003 9:25am

In the bands defense Pendemic played for 45 mins and had asked for 40. I agree they could have done without the long Metalica cover at the end of thier set too. SI, CH, and EF all have approx 1/2 hour sets so I didnt see a problem with letting a band that was cool enough to come down from nanaimo to open this show play a bit longer. The changeover between Pendemic and EF was horrible. it took just shy of 40 minutes but was a combo of a slow tear down, full drum kit set up and some soundguy troubles. Shit happens. The change up between the EF and CH was 15mins and between CH and SI was an amazing 30 seconds!!!! Shit not only did they use the same gear but they used the same guitarist! Fuckin awesome. - Mon, 29 Dec 2003 9:50am

First off "moron" fuck none of us realy listen to "nu-metal' Were all about Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Slayer, RATM, Motorhead, Sepultura and stuff like that. And get the cover songs straight, one was a Sepultura cover and it fuckin kicked ass. You low-life bottom feeding salad tossing cum sucking sack of dying feces. You wouldn't know a good act if you saw one. So we had a couple troubles. You ever heard of nerves. And who gives a shit if our set was longer, some people enjoyed And I hope your not the guy that the huge dude pinned up against the wall cause if you are you're an assmunch. Oh and we don't do "hooks" in our songs to please to "commercial bullshit" music listeners like you. - Mon, 29 Dec 2003 9:13pm

Of course if you play live you're gonna get ripped on by people who have nothing better to do than make negative comments about others to try and make themselves feel more valuable. However, after being singled out and insulted an individual obviously has the right to retaliate. Did you notice that 'moron' spent 3/4 of his message bashing Pendemic and the other 1/4 praising another band when he could have simply stated, 'I didn't like Pendemic' and the point would have been proven. It's a shame that there happens to be a few complete social rejects on this board who are happiest when putting down others. Perhaps it makes them forget how pathetic they truly are. These are my 'Final Thoughts'... - Tue, 30 Dec 2003 9:05am

Moron (if I think it is who it is) has every right to rip it up. He's been involved in the vic music scene for as long as I can remember as well as in numerous bands over the years. Personal taste also plays into it, maybe yer just not his cup o tea? Either way this section is for reviews, be they good or bad. If you're going to play shows expect mixed reviews and suck it back like big boys/girls. - Tue, 30 Dec 2003 1:07pm

Nu metal is pretty much trash... I definitely would not categorize RATM as nu metal by any means, a lot of their stuff is actually quite talented. It's groove-oriented for sure but they have some solid fuckin riffs and they have their own sound that resembles no other band. I don't actually listen to them mind you, but what I've heard of their older stuff is quite good. - Wed, 31 Dec 2003 8:52am

hey wreaker no offense but second best singer is not as bad as it first might seem. we all gota say nelie fertato has got that first place covered, but after her who else do you think of when you think high energy in your face vocals.... i'll tell ya....Wreaker thats who! so cheer up chum, fuck I gotta settle for second best drummer in kelowna now so I totaly can relate not only second best but second to a band named sutterfly....sutterfly do you think metal when you hear that name? well I guess theres the faries so there one up on those guys eh. well back to me being second is also flattering cuase I was at least fourth or fifth in vic. but you don't even have to be good to make it anywhere in music there are plenty of bands that made millions on less talent than you carry around in your little finger look at queensryche, prince, the pistols, iggy pop, insane clown pose, fuck i could do this all day... - Thu, 8 Jan 2004 1:18pm

Man I wish I had gone to that gig, Pendemic was off the hook when I saw them live. I caught Enchanted Fairies over at Flee's and didn't get a chance to see the stage show (too many people in the basement) but I did chat with the lead singer afterwards and really liked the mask he wore, the sound was pretty cool. And hey, ya can't go wrong with Self Inflicted live (or even on their demo). - Sat, 17 Jan 2004 9:24pm
