CHAOS SAPIENS

missed them so I can't say much about them.

REGULAR PEOPLE

Regular people were good. They would have been great if the sound guy had a fucking clue what Pantera actually sounded like. No matter where I went in that club the sound was the same. Up front bass and thin guitars wasn't exactly Pantera's calling card but that's what the sound guy had dialed in.

HOLLOW POINT

Nothing kills the energy at shows like long waits between bands. And headliners just love watching their set list shrink while you set up a bunch of frivolous crap.

Why does the drummer use a huge kit to play rock beats?

Why does the guitarist feel the need to have 4 (four!) cabs on stage?

Why are you not opening the show if it's your bands first performance?

I sincerely hope that clearing that room out faster than a mad man with a flame thrower has taught you a lesson in humility.

BLACK HAT VILLAIN

Not a big fan of this style of music but I'll damned if I wasn't impressed. Well crafted songs, catchy vocals lines and an all around professional delivery. No denying the talent there. They performed a minor miracle in resuscitating that crowd. - Sun, 14 Jun 2009 3:43pm

Turn out was good at times but dwindle fairly quickly unfortunate for the folks that left early they missed a great band.
Black Hat villian had stolen the show sound wise. The vocals (lead and harmonies) were some of the best I've seen in awhile. You could hear everything perfectly clear from pretty much everywhere. The guitar playing was really good and they put on a good show. Did I mention the lead singer was fantastic at engaging the crowd.

Hollow point had a pretty tough job in playing after us, and it didn't help that the guitar was farting out the PA speakers. The sound for this band was really bad because of the farting.
Muscially, it was really good but I knew all the songs (I recorded them lol). Their new singer was good and fit the band really well. They have definately got to get victor doing some backing vocals as I could hear harmonies in my head.

Regular people... I played like shit but people still seemed to enjoy it. I couldn't hear Colin until I realized he wasn't coming out of the monitors duh... Daves hand was broken but he still managed to pull it off!

Chaos Sapiens are fucking crazy. I can't get my head around how that dude comes up with those guitar riffs. It just doesn't make sense to me, but it works in the entire band circle. Their songs were tight (consider Dave had a busted up hand, and just had a couple 4 inch pins remember from his knuckles the day before). The sound for them was pretty good. Its a shame people didn't start showing up until nearly the end of their set.

Here's a review of Black Hat Villain's performance from Thorny Bleeder, an independant record label from Vancouver;

I just got back from Victoria (on Vancouver Island) yesterday, after going to check out the newly re-launched Black Hat Villain, which now features Scott Valentine on vocals. While this was only their second live performance with their new lineup, you'd never guess it judging by how unbelievably solid these guys are. 'Pro' is an understatement. These guys are ready to go and I won't be surprised if they have major labels knocking on their door very soon.

Black Hat Villain is an extremely exciting band to watch on stage whose seasoned players ooze with confidence, skill, and swagger. Song-wise, think Stone Temple Pilots meeting Tragically Hip while hanging out with Pearl Jam.

Without a doubt, exciting things are on the horizon from these guys, they're definitely a band to watch. It was pretty obvious that the Victoria scene was anticipating this show, with quite a few people in the crowd sporting their own 'black hat fedoras' in tribute to the band's name.

While Black Hat Villain don't have any of their new songs available online yet, they did film last Saturday's show at Sugar in Victoria, so you'll be able to see some live video clips very soon, which I'll post here on The Bleeder Blog as soon as they're available. The band is hitting the studio in early July to record their debut EP, so we'll be able to share some new music with you very soon.

Until then, join their Facebook page here and bookmark their newly launched website here: http://www.blackhatvillain.com. - Sat, 27 Jun 2009 10:57am
