no reviews lately so heres goes mine:

I went to see the early show at the Commodore, because its not everyday you get to see an all ages there. I love seeing all ages at places like this because its a lot of kids' first show, and like a friend said "its changing lives". (His words, not mine!) But turnout wasn't the greatest - the floor was probably 2/3 full with none of the seating areas filled, so I guess it could've been a lot worse. But COME ON! An all ages metal show on a Saturday afternoon, promoted by CFox??? How can something like that not pack out? Kids are dumb!
But it was good to see a couple of familiar faces, who like me didn't want to brave the mayhem of the 19+ show later on that night &/or wanted to get to other shows.

That was a great one to be a first. I got there about 2 songs into Bison and they were playing like they'd been at it for 1/2 hour they were so pumped. Its wierd seeing them now, I get nostalgic. I imagine where they're headed and think of where they've been and what a huge job they've got ahead of them. Awesome. My friend said it best - sabbath meeting early metallica's not going to disappoint.

I mainly wanted to say that I'm now a bit of a 3" fan. I had a great time at one of their first shows at the Railway way back, because it was a novelty to see *screaming* metal in there & at Shindig. I remember kinda waking up and appreciating that they were up there doing what they were doing. But after that they never quite convinced me, and I'd see them over and over, thinking they were technically good, but I was never feeling it.
But I was into it on Saturday. At first I was playing it cool and holding onto past grudges, but partway through I started banging my head.
It certainly looks like almost all metalheads up there now! And best of all they played like it - like they weren't just playing like its their day gig, but like they were feeling it and living it.
They're not gonna be my favorite band or anything (not because they're not good, but because its just not my favorite style), but man that guy totally pulls off some seriosly strong vocals - someone's gotta do it and he does it well. I think they petered out a touch by the end, but what can you expect, it was an afternoon show.
That said, I talked with a couple of others who are still holding onto their past grudges - bummer for them, I'm moving on!

I do however REALLY hate that crazy nights song. A lot. Please don't play it ever again, waddya say?

Priestess had to follow (a tough spot!) but I think they've relaxed into their own thing these days. I know a lot of people really like this band but I can't say I've ever understood why. Not that I've ever thought they were bad. I suspect I've just never taken the time to get into it since they always headline over more energetic bands where its hard to come down afterwards.
The crowd seemed attentive and into it, which is definitely saying something after an intense metal set.

So that was my afternoon out with the wee ones. I wore my new baby blue mittens in an effort not to scare them. But the sea of 3" shirts kinda spoke volumes. - Thu, 4 Dec 2008 10:33pm

I have a theory about the lack of reviews these days.
None of the show threads get moved to the Show Review section, so less people tend to bother reviewing because they either don't realize there is a thread about the show in existence or they just don't feel like starting a review thread.
Or maybe I'm wrong.
Nice that the show went well. Hope all three bands achieve great fame and wealth! - Fri, 5 Dec 2008 6:24pm

This won't be an issue soon, we're just about to install a bunch of new stuff which will change everything.

If the unreviewed stuff gets dumped in here, we can do it, but it'll have to be ALL of it, which would choke out the reviewed stuff.
But if you really want I'll see what Nev can build in to accomodate it. I can think of a simple fix actually... I'll see if he agrees.

Wealth & fame, huh? haha! I'm not sure thats exactly whats driving all of them, but if there's an opp for w&f doing what you do anyway, and love doing above all else, why not?

But with at least 1 of those guys I'm excited for him mostly because this may end up giving him the opportunity to meet & play with some of his biggest influences, something I firmly believe he deserves a shot at.
I'm a HUGE fan. His career (& his energy & enthusiasm) so far has inspired a lot of great players here. And he's given me the inspiration to expand my musical interests as a fan, and to get a lot of what we're trying to do here via the sites happening. - Fri, 5 Dec 2008 7:14pm

This is my theory on the lack of reviews. People are lazy. You shouldn't have to move any threads. That's where you promote a show, and this is where you write about a show. Pretty basic formula.

I attended the +19 show later that night, but not very well so I felt I shouldn't write anything. We blew off the first band but made it in time to have to wait for Bison. Trying to mildly sip a bottle of 6.50$ beer became impossible once Bison took the stage and opened with 'Slow Hand of Death'. We started in the balcony and it sounded great. After a few songs we got in close to mix it up a bit and smoke a marijuana cigarette. 'These are my dress clothes' was my favourite moment of the whole show. My only beef is that they didn't play long enough. And Sati, I totally agree with you on the nostalgia tip. I used to see Bison at 340, The Cobalt and The Black Door, so seeing them pack out the Commodore makes me stoked for them.

The opening of the 3 inches set was also a great moment, as the spotlight shone down on an empty drum stool, and from what seemed like out of nowhere, up popped Ash, while some epic orchestra music was playing. I know Ash from the Angel Grinder and Sound of the Swarm days so I was super pumped to see him up there. And damn, that boy got chops!

The last time I saw 3 inches of blood they had all original members and were playing the Atlantis night club as a Slam City Jam kick off party something like 5 years ago. They played such hits as 'Balls of Ice', and 'Hall of Heroes', so it's safe to say things were pretty different this time around. One singer was missing, and the other was the only original member, but this didn't really seem to matter as far as rocking hard. They played 'Destroy the Orcs' and 'Curse of the Lighthouse Keeper' (I think) and they have the guitarist from Human Resistance Program who is a shredder. 3 Inches definitely impressed me.

Then we left and went to a friend's house party because it was his birthday. I think the real reason I bailed early was because there were a few beers waiting for me at the party and I couldn't afford anymore 6.50$ bottles. Nothing against Priestess, I've never seen them, but apparently we had to go. Luckily it was a pretty fun party. - Fri, 5 Dec 2008 7:54pm

Any thing that improves the performance of the board is probably supported by everyone here.

Around the time the new rule about not moving show threads to Show Reviews until they actually had a review is when the volume of reviews posted dropped off. Not sure if there is a relevance to this, but it seems worthy of consideration. - Sat, 6 Dec 2008 4:03pm

Hey Denny, by nostalgia I more meant seeing a couple of those guys in waay different types of bands since the late 90's! But thats cool that you meant the way Bison roared around town til they got signed.
And yeah, the dramatic 3 inches parts were really well done, and that drummer was great, both that night and with those other bands. I just wasn't too big of a fan of those other bands, but definitely not due to him.

and you might have a point about more reviews happening then, but only select threads were moved, which is why it didn't cause much of the "choking out" problem. And we don't have a democratic way of selecting which get moved... besides waiting for users to indicate that they want to see, or write, a review!
Anyway we're going to hold off messing with things here til our other stuff is off the ground. - Sun, 7 Dec 2008 1:57pm Edited: Sun, 7 Dec 2008 1:58pm
