I made it down this time, as opposed to last time when SOMEONE posted the wrong start time for their show.
Wicked band bones! Definately one of the better, faster, tighter, and more FUN bands I've seen in quite a while. I liked it last time and this time even more, maybe cuz one of the players kept his pants on!
I saw in seeking musicians you're looking for a new drummer? Damn, that guy's good! Hope you can gel as well QUICK with the new guy. And good to see a decent turnout.
I caught the Fight United too... they were pretty good, I like what they do... we had fun, and Paul's just an awesome guy.

I did catch SNFU the next night. They were a little more subdued than when I'd last seen them (in front of a bar full of MANIACS at the Cobalt!) but Chi was still in good form, that guitar player's one of my favorite soloists, and the crowd were enjoying themselves and helping with vocals. Denis Inebriator is on bass now!

I was there earlier too for Last Plague. I've liked them a lot since Bryan McCallum left and Brett joined. Which is wierd cuz Bryan's my favorite bass player around here. Brett was in my favorite local h/c band the first day, and obviously amps up everything he's in, but this time in a more supporting/team player role which is cool (and admirable in a player like that!) cuz I really like the other guitar player in that band too. An awesome set, I thought. I really like 'em.

Between bands I ran around to some other venues, and finally ended up at Zuckuss. It was election night for Wendy (yay wendy!) and Zuckuss is my favorite band.
I am a "Superfan", thank you very much.
I think I'm supposed to lead a street team or something now. And start spamming msg boards in LA about them.

Anyway, this was a pretty good festival. Whether you preferred the type of music or not, all the bands seem to have a pretty decent record of having played shows around town, which is refreshing since it seems that usually festival slots in Vancouver go to friends. :( And if it was at all like the festival of guns was the last couple years (cuz thats where one of the organizers was from), the bands got paid and got great loot out of it. All the bands I went out to see were pretty much on time (which is always THE MOST IMPORTANT to me). $20/12 was ok, I guess. And there were decent crowds at most of the places I went.
nearly success. ha. - Wed, 19 Nov 2008 10:20pm Edited: Wed, 19 Nov 2008 10:30pm

I'm glad you had a good time! It was a pretty good show for us, and yeah we try out a new guy on drums next weekend, should be interesting to say the least. This certain someone who posted the wrong start time, are you referring to me?

I didn't make it out to snfu, too lazy. After I missed Last Plague my mind was pretty much made up. I've yet to see those guys, and Human Resistance Plan was one of my favourite local bands around.

Did snfu play any new songs? Their myspace says 'working on a new album' Seems kind of blasphemous to me, but I like Goonie so I won't say so.

So much good music last weekend! Sounds like you were on quite the mission. - Sun, 23 Nov 2008 12:43pm

Yeah, you posted a way late start for the mckenzies show so I missed all but your last 4 chords. Mckenzies were good though, extra soppy! (did dirty kurt actually play anything that night?)
You've got to see Last Plague! Its a good time to see them - hopefully there'll be no more lineup changes. Great to see Brett in a boy-band again, haha!
snfu played some stuff i didn't recognize, but i'm not an old die-hard either. My friend was pointing out that its just dog eat dogma now - no bob and with Chi!
Blasphemous or not, its good to see Chi doing well and the rest of them, and the packed crowds, enjoying themselves. I barely ever got to see snfu, so this is still pretty exciting to me. Speaking of Bryan, he was playing bass for them the first time I saw this new incarnation, and I was so fucking happy & excited to see him be able to do that. This gives a chance for old fans (whether they're musicians or fans, or even promoters) to experience a taste of what was, and thats cool. If the guest players were lesser fans playing the music poorly, it would definitely suck.
Goonie always seems to glare at me when I say I like his playing. Which is why I used to think he was an asshole.
And yeah, running around to shows is my favorite thing, so i do it all the time. I had an old friend with me those couple nights which slowed me down though, so I missed some stuff I wanted to see (Motorama, Fiends, Ford Pier never got to play).
but i'm trying to get over it. hey that'd be a good lineup.

i ran into donut that night, he'd be rad drumming with your band. that might be a wild ride though, haha! - Sun, 23 Nov 2008 6:30pm

Oh yeah the McKenzies show. I remember going on earlier than what I was first told, but when they asked us to get up there the bar was so packed I couldn't say no.

I only met donut once and he was crazy. Would have fit in better with Jones Bones 2.5 years ago.

Glaring or no glaring, Goonie is the man. And I'm really pumped for what is called snfu these days as well. That band was one of my first big punk shows and it changed my life. If someone told me back then that I would one day be in a band that would play a couple shows with snfu I would have giggled my motherfuckin' ass off.

How many shows are you going to this weekend? - Mon, 24 Nov 2008 11:09pm

yeah kind of intense but i think he's a good guy. Goonie seems to be too, though I don't really know him.
and i don't know, not too many.. 3 or 4 maybe. Its not always stuff i'm really into so it makes it harder to get out! - Wed, 26 Nov 2008 10:18pm
