Thank you very much. If it wasn't for Livevic I woulda missed this.
I appreciate spoken word, but I have to admit some disappointment that there will be no music. Or will there? M. Franti did an acoustic set at his movie showing at the Mac., before the "discussion" - Thu, 19 Oct 2006 12:34am

Hey NNB: I've seen you bitch about the price of shows on several occasions citing that people should be more like your shows at 5 and 6 bux. And now your promoteing a show thats 20 and 15 is what it looks like?

Now I realize this is because Jello dosen't come free, and even at a sellout your not making "fat cash" or anything. I just wanted to point out that the costs your facing on this show are what othe people end up facing on other shows they're doing.

I just hate seeing that "shows are too expencive" thread all the time. Hope the show goes well, I might come down and try and check it out, although I don't think I could handle 4 hours of Jello, maybe 2. =) - Thu, 19 Oct 2006 8:18pm

I am loosing money on this show to be honest, if it sells out I may break even...
Basically the problem is that I have to rent 250 chairs, and on top of that I need twice as big a venue, but there was none cause they were all rented for the arts symposium, so now I had to increaSE THE PRICE. I honestly concidered not doing thisshow cause of the ticket price I had to make it.
I worked for a month at subwayto pay for this. - Fri, 20 Oct 2006 2:06am

A room at the University of Victoria would have been perfect for this event. The students would have been stoked (probably those that know about it are). Costs would have been considerably less in terms of security and sound since he's doing a spoken word performance and the venue wouldn't have to be licensed. Also, there are quite a few recreation centres, church halls and/or event halls that would have been receptive to hosting the event. Some of these venues would have had greater capacity and would also have chairs that would have been included in the cost of the rental. - Fri, 20 Oct 2006 2:34am Edited: Fri, 20 Oct 2006 2:35am

Many of the halls and suc were called and checked, most were booked, including places like the ukrainian cultural centre, and metro studios.
I did not want to put this in a church, for variouse reasons, some one did contact the university, I forget who at this point as I had many people working on this with me. We also contacted schools about using their gymnasiums, in the end almost every where was unavailable, or did not reply to us at all. I also thought it was verry important to keep this event some where accessable to people with barriers, to keep it near down town, so people that have more trouble travelling for what ever reson could still attend as much as possible. I know I have problems making it to the university, and many events happen there that I end up skipping because of the trip, I already have a busy schedual.
Perhapse if you have contacts that are stoked at uvic, you could see about helping promote this, to break even I need to sell out, there is 250 seats, and will be limmeted standing room that will be available as well. Ticket sales have been slower than expected at this point. - Fri, 20 Oct 2006 9:37am

That was cool. Too bad there was empty seats.
Jello didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, kinda preaching to the chior. Still, it was cool to listen to an American capsulise their political climate.
He talked about not supporting corporations by not giving them our money (McDonalds) and buying localy. I felt he could have taken that further into eating organically. Then again that would have taken another hour.
Thanks to the organizers for organizing. Thanks to Jello for coming. - Sun, 29 Oct 2006 1:01am

Jello sure has to pee a lot.. He even grabbed a water bottle to pee in when there was too much of a line for the washroom during intermission. I'm still in pain from sitting for about 4 hours in a small plastic chair.... I don't think my butt will recover, ever. Anyways it was enjoyable, and the "autographed" picture "Bush" sent to Jello was frickin' hilarious. - Sun, 29 Oct 2006 6:44pm

I'm sorry to hear you lost a lot of money, but even though the turnout was not as hoped, I did see some rather young cats in the audience. In fact two 15 year old boys sat next to me in the back(one even had a spiked mohawk). There was even a coupla young boys everyone musta noticed, like maybe 12 years old. Anyway, no one knows how Jello's rant will affect them and influence how they think about things and what they will spread to their young peers.
Your money may one day go a long way in rippling through our community.
You should be very proud.
I for one thank you. - Mon, 30 Oct 2006 12:02am

Is no one else going to call out Jello?

I was extremely disappointed by this show. I thought Jello was going to challenge me and present some thought provoking new ideas. All I heard were a lot of old conspiracy theories. I almost went crazy when he started in with the Nazi comparisons, which are used by every left wing wacko and never do anything good for you when you're trying to make a point. I also could have done without the bad impressions and references to the "United Snakes of America" and "Condosleeza Rice" etc. It just made him sound campy and stupid. Did anyone else notice when he was reading from the Hilary letter he said National Security was listed as an issue in the letter, but then right after he said "where is Iraq here" and went on to mention a couple other things "Hilary doesn't think are issues", but easily would fall under the headline of National Security? I was entertained at times, but ultimately I had to leave at about 9:30 - Mon, 30 Oct 2006 10:32am Edited: Mon, 30 Oct 2006 10:39am

I was expecting more newer stuff I will admit... But his rant was good, and most of what you are complaining about, is stuff you should expect, also national securrity only would count iraq from an uber alles right wing view. The condasleeza rice and all that is stuff he has been saying fer years, if you ever listen to him, and there was still stuff I never heard, or that surprised me.
The thing I don't like is that he makes you feel doomed, and at the same time some how, like carying a sign will help save the world. like politicians profiting from all this are goin to quit cause less than 5% of the population walks arround with cardboard sighns, even though those sign toting peoples are not ever going to vote fer said politician....
other than some ideological differences, I think most people enjoyed it... I did see some youth there, but in all we sold about 12 youth tix, I was hoping for closer to 50, thus why it was cheeper for yuouth.
and jeff, or any one, if you really can not afford some thing and you really want in, let me know, I am always willing to work some thing out if I can, I could have had you work door, or sell merch or some thing, and youi would have gfotten to see the show...
also if any one needs my help with a show, I am always willing, just ask and I will see what I can do, except of course if you have sexist/racist or some thing like that bands... lol

p.s. if any cats feel like donation to help out getting debts payed off, it would help...lol - Mon, 30 Oct 2006 11:31am

If the Democrats are the same as the Republicans and the Republicans are right wing uber alles, it would make sense that Hilary considers Iraq a national security issue.

Regardless of whether or not I should expect the nazi comparisons etc., I still don't like them.

Admittedly beforehand I had not listened to a lot of Jello spoken word, but I don't think it's too much to ask for SOMETHING thought provoking during over two hours of spoken word. I agree with you on the doom and gloom thing, I thought he went far. I don't know if he mentioned this at the end of his set, but he should have encouraged people to get involved in politics more, to run as candidates--or support "grassroots" campaigns.

You may not like the system, but it is there and my personal belief is you have to use the current system in order to change it (does that make sense?). - Mon, 30 Oct 2006 1:36pm

no, it dosn't make sense... the system will change you before you change it... and yes he talks about grass roots a lot.
I think organizing to accomplish the shit the goivernment is failing to do presents a better alternative, more grass roots and more effective than politics ever will. - Mon, 30 Oct 2006 5:40pm

On a far lesser scale of resistance, he did talk about the power of the consumer.
I live my life by that rule. I will not give my money too cocacola, mcdonalds, or many other evils.
Thing about that is since adopting that policy I have become much healthier, and discovered amazing new flavours and produce variety locally.
Oh yeah, one more thing, I fucking hate salmon farming. Be careful when buying "atlantic" salmon, or any barbq tips, or shishkebob salmon in grocery stores. It's all disguised farmed garbage. An absolute slap in the face to mother nature. - Mon, 30 Oct 2006 7:47pm
