he'll sell it for $300 cuz it needs a bit of work so you can take the other $200 you have to fix it up (might not even cost that much to fix it) - Mon, 20 Jan 2003 2:57pm
ticklefish Seriously check out a Johnson J-station, a POD, or a V-amp. They are a pain in the ass to learn to tweak right, but you can get amazing tone out of the things. For under $500 you will then have more than a dozen amplifiers . - Tue, 21 Jan 2003 2:09pm

yeah, a pod would be good... but I'd need to buy a power amp, as well as the $300 foot pedal thats used with it

All I need is a simple 100 Watt tube amp head.... Someone out there has to know of one for around 500. - Tue, 21 Jan 2003 4:03pm
Anonymous POD SUCKS! DONT BUY POD IF YOU INTEND TO PLAY LIVE! - Tue, 21 Jan 2003 4:15pm
ticklefish The footswitch issue is definitely a pain, no question, the damn thing costs as much as a POD in the first place. I use a Johnson J-station, which is dang nice, and got a Behringer FCB1010 footswitcher for it ($240), it also works for the POD. And, yeah, if you don't have a power amp....

and to the "POD sucks live" comment...you don't have a clue what you are talking about. There are so many killer guitarists of all sorts of genres plugging PODs, and J-stations straight into PA systems with power amps on-stage for monitoring. If "it sucks" it is because whoever was playing through it didn't know how to set it up right - Tue, 21 Jan 2003 4:27pm
ML7Mike Go read http://www.harmonycentral.com user reviews on any gear you intend to buy.. always a good source of 'been there done that ' info.

POD's are ok. They are hard to tweak. I remember when we toured with Nevermore I got to chat up Jeff Loomis about his POD PRO( he is endorsed by Line 6 ) His personal opinion was that it was extremely hard to tweak, and they are very power amp specific. He was using a Mesa Boogie power amp, but didnt like it at all, and was planning on investing in another power amp. His basic overall opinion was that if he wasnt endorsed to get all the freebie gear, he'd be using a tube amp of some sort.

Hell of a unit for home use though, and the little POD units are cheap. We've used one in Zero Gravity for a few guitar overdubs. - Tue, 21 Jan 2003 4:39pm
ticklefish no doubt it comes down to dollars! If I had the $$ I would rather have a few different amplifiers and lots of footpedals and different mics to mic the amp for recording than a "virtual amp". However for home recording/playing the virtual amp is a godsend: for a fraction of the cost I can get nearly the same effect (and the number of people who will be able to tell the difference is tiny, including most pro musicians).

I rented several different virtual amps plus did the Harmony Central reviews before I chose what I bought, and the J-station won hands down for me over the POD, teh V-amp, and the AX1500G for both sound and "tweakability". It is still much harder to tweak than a real amp until you get really used to it and program your footpedals right, but I can set any parameter in the J just as easily as a real amp. - Tue, 21 Jan 2003 4:53pm
Wolfgang pods fucking rule for recording. i use it for all my home shit because you can record with headphones in silence at 4 in the morning and it sounds like a cranked stack(almost). its perfect if you live in an apartment - Tue, 21 Jan 2003 4:57pm

POD's are all fine and good. Here's what we did for our final overdubs on Tuesday night.
Tony used his ESP through his Metal Zone tweaked to his specs then that was into the POD on a clean channel. It crushed the POD and I have to say it sounded as good as the mic'ed amp guitars we have on there! - Fri, 24 Jan 2003 12:14am
wanna rock? POD is not a head, its an effects unit. it emulates amplifiers and cabnets.

i own one great for home jammin'
i've used it with a peavey combo amp during two shows, it worked ok but its no marshall.
as for recording i always sounded to thin, got better sounds miking the cabnet. might be ok for some over dub stuff.

buy the jcm 800 above. i have one it rules. - Fri, 24 Jan 2003 3:47am
ticklefish I think most of us are aware that a POD is not a head.

The point is if you have a poweramp and cabinet with a POD, you don't need a head. As for recording a POD or a mic'd amp, like I said above, it is all about setting the POD up right, because you can get equally good sound. PODs/Vamps/J-stations etc. don't sound better than a real amp, but in the hands of someone who knows how to work it, it sounds as good as a real amp, many different kinds of amps, at a fraction of the cost. If you have your "sound" dialled in on the gear you have, then that's cool, but a shiteload of people out there like having a wide variety of sounds accessible to them and could never afford to buy 6 different amps. - Fri, 24 Jan 2003 11:19am
Well Hung Phooey POD's make a good attempt at emulation, but in the end, a Pd is but a Pod and always will be. Phoooey. - Fri, 24 Jan 2003 11:30am
