I gotta admit, I am in love with the 'Wall of Sound' recording technique, and was wondering if there was anyone out there who might want to write a few songs to be recorded by this method and then get some people together to do so? - Thu, 6 Dec 2007 10:31pm

I'm not familiar with the term - what exactly is the Wall of Sound technique, and what kind of music are you wanting to get into with it? - Fri, 7 Dec 2007 12:17pm

The wall of sound was a technique used by Phil Spector (above pictured) where many (20-30?) musicians would squeeze into a studio space and play all at the same time. This included having 2-3 grand pianos and a couple of drumkits I believe. Spector was influenced by the huge sound of composer Wagner.

The wall of sound was most often used by girl groups in the sixties that sounded like the style that Amy Winehouse has borrowed for her newest album - but he also produced the Beatles album "Let it Be".

Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys is probably his most famous copycat on albums like "Pet Sounds".

It sounds like a great project; unfortunately if you want to use the "technique" you need a huge room with tons of people in it. Also great gear wouldn't hurt, like a reel-to-reel and a vintage console. But have fun. - Tue, 18 Dec 2007 10:03am Edited: Tue, 18 Dec 2007 10:04am
