The origins of motherSun began in 1998 in Whistler BC.

Serena was an aspiring talent with a powerful and lilting voice who had travelled from Tasmania on a backpackers budget. After travelling across Canada, she had found herself holding a night job while snowboarding during her days. It was at a local jam night that she met Andrew.

Andrew was a studied guitar player who had toured mexico seeking and providing instruction. He had played with various local Victoria bands and had done some session work but had never committed to any one band. His talent took him around the world, playing in pubs in Europe, Australia, Vcitoria and Vancovuer to finally rest in Whistler BC.

She from Australia and he from Vancouver Island, they began writing and developing a sound with "Bliss Syndrome". After playing local Whistler pubs, Their journey took them back to Australia to write and play for a year.

It is Vancouver 2000 and Johhny Haywood succumbs to the the fatigue of tour and quits "Shattered", a local Vancouver favourite. After seven years of hard promotion, the band had landed no prosperous record deal and the future was grey. He decides to leave on amicable terms and moves to the Island to start again. In Victoria he lands himself a seat with "Big brown Jobbie" and "The Nibblers".

At the same time, Kelly McCausland experiences the climactiuc finality of the local Victoria reggae standard "The Cultivators". His fast fingers and slick grooves set the foundation for his musical degree to challenge the most gifted of listeners. The band plays its final gig Sept. 2000.

Fall 2002, Kelly and Andrew Meet while attending college. A friendship and harmony is reached almost instantly. Serena overhears a conversation in local tavern one night and meets the "once was" drummer for Shattered. A union is propositioned and the band that is "motherSun" organizes a jam. The jam transpires and a providence is felt. All members are a committed whole, no questions asked.

In less than 3 months, 15 originals are hammered out for their first gig. The venue was filled to maximum capacity and the 30 roughly burned CD's were sold out in 5 minutes to fans demanding autographs. Since, the band has had more venues approach them than they could have imagined. Rock, Folk, Punk fusion with a flair for experimentalism sets motherSun outside the parameters of your usual band. All members are trained in their craft and it shows! In short, "They give 'er'".
