rotoscoping? is that what that is called? i think that would be sort of annoying to watch a whole movie with that effect. - Wed, 16 Mar 2005 7:53pm

I'm really looking forward to it as well. No Dick conversion to date has come close to the paranoia and insanity that is key to his stories. Even Bladerunner is a good movie, but when it comes down to it is barely based upon the book. Dick never wrote 'action' stories per se; So much is based upon the internal conflict and dangerously-bad personal relationships. PKD's stories are the kind of story that Hollywood claims to love, but executes very badly.

A Scanner Darkly should be a very interesting choice because you cannot help but include the massive drug use and schizophrenic element or there would be no movie at all.

I read that John Lennon had optioned the novel 'The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch' for a movie project. At the time he was proposing it, probably technically impossible to do, however there were a lot more practising acid-heads to provide some guaranteed viewers.

Perhaps the best remaining novel which could be made for a semi-massive audience would be 'The Man in a High Castle.'

For a writer with so many 'based-on' movies, the track record of movie conversion has been brutal to date. Until I saw this movie was in the works, I've stopped even attempting to watch them.

The same goes for Isaac Asimov which 'should' be easy to make into movies. But same thing, they aren't about intense Will Smith 'Action'!

I can't say I'm happy about Keanu being in it. Hopefully Rotoscoping allows his inate geekiness to be painted over completely. - Wed, 16 Mar 2005 8:49pm
