Hey, this is a wierd question, but I'm wondering how many of you can say that you've never bailed on a friend or family member when they needed you. When they've really needed you I mean, not when they just needed you to pick up milk.

I'm asking because I'm always blown away by the people you know or hear about who run out on their loved ones at crucial times, I guess out of simple fear & weakness, and then never own up to it afterwards. Do they actually justify their actions if ever they think of it, or are they able to just live out their lives in hiding, feeling like crap.
I also wonder what the roundabout percentage of people is out there who can be really be counted on by those around them.

It seems like the world's full of an inordinate amount of fragile people who're only capable of falling apart & running if things got tough or they're called upon for help. - Tue, 21 Aug 2007 10:24pm Edited: Tue, 21 Aug 2007 10:26pm

It depends Sati.

Sometimes we are not equiped to help, and can cause harm to those we wish to help by sidetracking them from getting the profesional help they really need.

It really depends. It can be a fine line between "helping", and getting dragged down with them. You can help by guiding them to access the services that can change their reality so they no longer need help.

Do you need help? - Wed, 22 Aug 2007 1:50am

You find out who your friends are when things get rough. Maybe that is the reason every once in a while life throws us a curve ball or two or three - to weed out the people in our lives that shouldn't be there. - Wed, 22 Aug 2007 3:42am

Yikes, no, this isn't a cry for help, thanks though! Sorry if it came off that way.

And I guess there's a lot of talk about mental illness on here these days, but I didn't mean that either, unless its more common than I thought. I meant more normal stressy periods like during deaths, losing jobs, big moves, breakups with other people, etc. The kinds of things that most everyone goes through. Seems loads of people find that their friends suddenly aren't around.
Yep, its good to weed 'em out! - Wed, 22 Aug 2007 7:58am Edited: Wed, 22 Aug 2007 8:00am

Depends on your connection I guess. I definately haven't had a dry summer.

Can't say I'd ditch on a friend if they needed help. Although I'm generally the shoulder everyone cries on in my social circle. - Wed, 22 Aug 2007 2:24pm

Isn't that becuase you're the one making them cry?

Some people just don't deal with difficult situations like that very well. It's too bad they don't always know themselves well enough to just be honest about it... but honesty is another story. - Wed, 22 Aug 2007 2:33pm Edited: Wed, 22 Aug 2007 2:36pm

hmm, I was thinking of deleting this since it was such a wierd post
in case anyone cares, it was spurred by some kids at the park all telling stories about how their parents/family/friends had ditched them and how they couldn't even get their attention again
it kinda ate at me because they seemed like such sweet kids, not even pissed about it yet, just coping. Jeez, people are resilient!

and aaaw, you guys, making friends on Live Vic! Nothing like weed to bring people together. - Thu, 23 Aug 2007 1:02pm Edited: Thu, 23 Aug 2007 1:05pm

Ahh, the one picture of Mike, Bram, Darryl and Lincoln taken when I was out of town. Never thought it would see the light of day. - Thu, 23 Aug 2007 5:58pm Edited: Sat, 25 Aug 2007 7:36pm
