Speed, Double Bass, Fills, Meter, Style, Technical cymbal ringy-dingy's, paradiddles, flangatangs... most important is style though (think Igor Cavalera/any drummer from Death) - Wed, 3 Dec 2003 6:03pm

Meter, period. I believe you have to have the timing right before you can take on more challenging things like double-bass. Some guys, thats all they practice is double-bass; sounds good, looks good, doesn't help anyone though if you're constantly off meter and dragging the rest of the band with you. I've picked up drumming again after taking 15 years off and I'm still working on my meter because that is what is most important for most music styles. I still can't do double-bass properly or fast and could really care less until my meter is on time to what we're playing. (I only play once or twice per week) - Thu, 4 Dec 2003 6:25am

"Double Baaassssssaaahhhhhhhhhhh!! Back to Our Roots!!"

I guesss meter goes without saying, no matter what style of drumming. Then I would make sure you identify which hand/leg are your weaker ones, and make up exercises that exploit/strengthen such weaknesses. Lifting weights can't hurt either, perhaps a cycle or 2 of steroids.

Hey Jesse, what's a ringy-ding-dingy/flangatang and can you show me how to perform such actions? - Thu, 4 Dec 2003 6:45am

Metal and its associated styles are almost 100% rhythm; if you can't play in time (and FAST!) you will suck at metal. The metal heads will probably tell you to work on your double kick, so who am I to argue. Whatever you do, though, DON"T SWING! - Thu, 4 Dec 2003 7:51am

The faster RPM multi machinegun a drummer's sound resembles the more I like it. - Thu, 4 Dec 2003 12:24pm

And if he's a non-drinker, that would help. But you won't find any of those in Victoria. - Fri, 5 Dec 2003 11:26am
