I just moved here from Calgary. I'm really in to metal. Where do all the metal heads in town here hang out?

Who are the good drummers and guitar players in town? - Thu, 13 Nov 2003 4:11pm

Thorazine's better in my opinion...maybe they're from Edmonton..hhmmm. Anyways welcome to Vic. If you like metal Blizzard check out the ML7 ( meatlocker 7 )boys, they're getting some attention right now. They're a tight unit. - Fri, 14 Nov 2003 2:48pm

Thanks Malachi for the plug..

So true, Thorazine are a crushing band from Calgary. I do think they just lost their most amazing bass player. Have you heard Divinity live tho? Pretty cool band, but in a different vein than Thorazine, not as grinding death, but more of a thrashing death style with some melodic breakdowns and soloing etc. Truth be told, Id be hard pressed to pick a favorite.. But there is also a black metal band from Montreal called Divinity who are on Galy Records, so Id imagine they'll ultimately have rights to the name.. - Fri, 14 Nov 2003 3:26pm

well horrible might be a personal opinion, but they are far from a horrible band.. in fact Id say they were technically very profficient and one of the better known unsigned metal acts in Canada.. Apparently they have been shopped by both Relapse and Nuclear blast, but not sure what is up with that. I could see how those with tender ears might not appreciate their brand of extreme blasting deathmetal though. - Fri, 14 Nov 2003 4:11pm

No I haven't heard Divinity live...but I want to. So Dave's no longer playing bass? That totally sucks man he had wicked chemistry with Ryan. I really dig the sample from Thorazine's forthcoming album "The day the ash blacked out the sun". (I still like the album Seed the Black Sky though). The guitar tone sounds absolutely killer as does the snare drum...one of the most underated drummers I might add. As for the comment that they suck it's all personal taste. They are one f#$king tight band and I hope they play Vic soon cause I'll be pissed if they don't. - Fri, 14 Nov 2003 4:34pm

They played here a few years back. I dont know Dave well, but when we did party this summer in Calary he was mentioning that he might move to Victoria or Vancouver and persue alternate styles.. his bass playing is so multi faceted, it seemed like he wanted more variety.. Apparently he has left Thorazine more than once, so who knows. - Fri, 14 Nov 2003 4:51pm

Welcome,

I know this guy from Alberta, Troy, he sent me all these 'Project Infinity' discs. I'm sure some of you here have corresponded with him as well.
Thorozine, they played at the Cambie a few years back, they weren't bad, not bad at all.

When the hell is the next metal show anyway? That's where the metal people go.... - Sat, 15 Nov 2003 6:37am

There's a show at James Bay Comm Center next Friday.. all ages.. more hc than metal, but Self Inflicted and TAN are both good heavy bands, havent heard the others yet..

As far as metal shows go, there have been nonstop metal shows all summer/fall it seems, and now its just starting to slow down a bit.. - Sat, 15 Nov 2003 9:44am

calgarypunk and albeta metal always fights. it's kind of funny because the calgary raver site hacked calgarypunk and there was a big fight. calgarypunk always gets in fights. horrah i don't go on there at all anymore; it was more of a high school thing were i'd harsh people on it with my cheese posts. i prefer livevictoria over those sites.
well it must have been a bad night for Thorazine when i saw then the couple of times i did. they just didn't sound good. the sound was off and they sounded horriable. there's some alright metal bands for calgary. i really don't mind the band Minion or Chubracraba(i don't know if i spelt that right). - Sat, 15 Nov 2003 1:48pm
