I recently picked up a Roland JX-3P for dirt cheap. It has one dead key. from what I understand, this is pretty easy to fix, but I opened it up & I couldn't get the key out. I think it just needs the contact cleaned... another possible fix I read about is inserting a small strip of plastic/cardboard/etc to increase the pressure. Is there anyone out there who has experience with this kind of synth maintenance? I'm not prepared to sink alot of money into this, as the synth works great when controlled externally, but if anyone could help I'm sure we could figure out some kind of compensation.

Thanks - Fri, 10 Feb 2006 10:57am

I'd hate to make enemies out of dear old friends by volunteering their help against their knowledge, but I know you have been looking for a reason to visit his crazy analog fetish for a while...

Ask Mactac if he would look at it with you. You're both analog heads after all. He might perhaps also know someone in town equally inclined if he cant assist himself.

Sweet... in that case...

MACTAC, oh wise wizard of the analog order! Hear me now! You have three days to respond here to my request for help, or I shall seek you out personally!

Err, I mean: dude, any chance you can help a brother out? I can give you some money for your troubles, or perhaps you could make use of a broken TR-707 in trade? I think all it needs is a replacement DC plug-hole-thingy. - Fri, 10 Feb 2006 2:57pm

hey boxdrone.... why could you not get the key out? i think in the 3p you need to take that metal brace out to get the key assembly out... ie you have to take the entire keyboard out to take one key out

email me privately & i'll see if i can help you out..

uhm. the 3xp has a problem with plastic bump contacts that loose their height and connectedness. A cardboard spacer will actually fix it, no soldering, check on the web for more on that. - Mon, 10 Apr 2006 7:56pm Edited: Mon, 10 Apr 2006 7:59pm
