"BATHORY Mastermind QUORTHON Dead At 39 - June 8, 2004
BATHORY mastermind Tomas "Quorthon" Forsberg was found dead in his apartment in Stockholm, Sweden on Monday, June 7, informed sources have confirmed this information. The 39-year-old son of Black Mark Records owner Brje Forsberg, widely considered to be one of black metal's founding fathers, died of an apparent heart failure."
-Taken from the Full Moon Productions Web Site

Bathory is without a doubt the most important Black/Heathen Metal band. My most honourable hails to Quorthon, the father of Black Metal!

I'd like to start planning a "Tribute to Bathory" show...who's with me? - Tue, 8 Jun 2004 4:21pm

Although I was never a big Bathory fan, I saw the message and decided to check out the official website. What I didn't know was the earlier material was based not on bands like Venom, but bands like Charged GBH, Exploited and Motorhead. Check out the story on there (there's like 18 chapters), what an awesome read. - Tue, 8 Jun 2004 7:01pm

one of the first really extreme cassettes I owned was Bathory s/t waaay back in like 1985. I swear, me and about 5 others were the only people on the island listening to Barhory in 1985.. people at our school thought we were truly satan worshippers when we'd crank that shit in the smoking area! - Wed, 9 Jun 2004 5:29am

Apparently he did Zipp. Yeah he was mentioning on the website that the first album was so extreme a lot of metal reviewers didn't really know what to make of it, yet that style of music inspired hundreds of bands. - Wed, 9 Jun 2004 10:47am

A little late on the news now arent you? But this still has not been confirmed, from what it says on the Bathory.se (official) Website, stuff doesnt match up.
According to the official site, Quorthon's name isnt Tomas Forsberg, nor Pugh Rogefeldt, nor any of the other names which have been attributed to him over the years. He also isnt related to Brje "Boss" Forsberg, owner of Black Mark Records.
Brje Forsberg is only 12 or 13 years older than Quorthon. And if the information on the website is correct, Quorthon should be 38, not 39.

Who knows... - Wed, 9 Jun 2004 3:22pm
