Could care less who the majority of people are here, and even less about their opinions. And I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way. This is the internet, anything posted on a message board means nothing.

Or we could all be forced post with our real names, rather than an alias. I can imagine how that would turn out... - Sun, 23 Nov 2008 3:05pm

Mike - maybe ONE-TENTH as excellent as Spencer is, but thanks the same!
anonymous - well, should I bite?
fuck it:
I slag only those who get on my case, like IGNORANT dipshits like yourself. (hell of a lot less anonymous than you are, so, apology accepted) Mentioning that I'm a dude who drums in Peruke will be asking too much of you to reciprocate, I guess.
Thought so.
ah yes - round em up, the cowardly sad-ass who I thought I chased outa here with HIS TAIL BETWEEN HIS FUCKING LEGS. Decided to crawl out from under your rock again to gripe about peoples' anger problems after they've put you in your place once again?
- you're the saddest of them all who've been on this messageboard, round em up. Think of that the next time you try to think up your next weasely rejoinder. - Mon, 24 Nov 2008 5:39pm

Curmudgeon: I've seen you posting for a long time but now I know who you are and I've seen your band! you are a really good drummer.

as for the anonymous slagging, I've come to accept that message boards attract a wide range of people, and that always includes jerks and know-it-alls and people with very different viewpoints. I try to keep relatively respectful, and even self-deprecating when I know I'm in the wrong, but some people on here are pieces of trash with closed minds. sometimes I do spout the occasional wild opinion and I'm glad people like Tambo are here, people who are my friends but can still point out when I'm being unreasonable without being mean about it.

I like livevictoria because a lot of people I like post on here and it keeps me in touch with the shows that are happening. my angle is from the all ages / hardcore / diy / "indie rock" point of view, and there's tons of great stuff happening in those veins, but there seem to be a lot of older dudes in bar cover bands who want to "make it big" and consider themselves professional musicians. that's fine with me, but it's too bad that some of them find problems with me in an open forum like this.

I've been on here since early '04 and I like that there doesn't need to be a lot of moderation. I don't see the need for people to be internet bullies though, especially the people who get something out of hiding in anonymity. I make myself obvious enough - my name's Tyler, I go to a lot of shows, and if anyone has a huge problem with something I'm saying then I'd like them to discuss it with me in a fair manner rather than saying I'm inexperienced and not worthy of posting. - Tue, 25 Nov 2008 7:21pm

i hear curmudgeon is a whiney squash player :P:P j/k doug!(its justin btw).

as for "anon. slagging"... meh, what goes around comes around. If it makes someone feel good for hiding behind a name and maliciously making fun of me... then fine. I have better things to do with my time.

"there seem to be a lot of older dudes in bar cover bands who want to "make it big" and consider themselves professional musicians"

on a technicality; accepting money for your service is considered "professional". But just because I've earned money with my music(certainly nothing to live off) I still dont consider myself "professional", in terms of business and not talent/ability. I like to think if I were playing every night of the week and lived off what I made; then I'd consider myself a "working musician". But anything short of actually making a career out of it(music), i wouldn't consider calling myself a 'professional musician'... and besides, being a "professional musician" is so passe, wouldn't you say tyler? :P - Wed, 26 Nov 2008 2:34pm

there's nothing "passe" about it. people made their livelihood off of music centuries ago and still do so now, so it's very relevant. was that a personality attack, that you think I would say that? I don't think I've ever used that word. I'm pretty sure almost everything I like or do is "passe" by some hipster's definition. but I agree with what you said, and that someone isn't a professional musician unless they generate a main source of income from it. and there ARE a bunch of those people in victoria. but livevictoria is a place with a large number of false authority figures who are really just hobby musicians - myself included. - Thu, 27 Nov 2008 10:37am Edited: Thu, 27 Nov 2008 10:41am

I only find joy in slagging people who are actually friends of mine. Slagging strangers is useless. Unless its that Devin guy who was a such a Flames homer, but thankfully he moved away. - Thu, 27 Nov 2008 11:02am

I should also add to my previous comments that just because a person is a hobby musician doesn't make them unhelpful, obviously. some people here are really smart.

also Devin was hilarious. - Thu, 27 Nov 2008 11:04am

i was just buggin' ya tyler... dont worry too much about it :P

I agree with you that alot of 'hobbie musicians' consider themselves to be much more than that; given they have the ability/talent to do so. I would also go as far as saying there's too many "cover bands"/"top 40's" going on. Ie, D'arcy's pub... I dont think they've ever hosted an evening of original grassroots music(and by grass-roots i mean local... Aside from an "open jam"... not "stage". You get to "jam" with the same people that play there week in and week out.... whoopy(dont know if its still going on). I remember I went there with the intention of playing a few songs on my own and I think I may have offended someone by asking them if it'd be ok if I just played w/o anyone else. So needless to say; I dont frequent that place all that often anymore. - Thu, 27 Nov 2008 1:28pm

Livevic is okay but i think a lot of people don't post because of a small group of assholes. Just look at the views.

p.s. people who play in cover bands are chill. my co-worker does and they make decent money on weekends. old people love it lol. - Thu, 27 Nov 2008 6:24pm Edited: Thu, 27 Nov 2008 6:25pm

there certainly isn't anything 'wrong' about playing in a cover band... but it would be nice to see an original act on a regular basis(provided they were able to write enough material) rather than some ol' tyme cover band.
I've done my time in cover bands... lord knows everyone's at least started out there one way or another.
(it'd be nice for at least 1 evening at d'arcy's pub not to listen to a cover of "save a horse, ride a cowboy") - Sat, 29 Nov 2008 9:07am
