Muse isn't familiar....

But I can sing falsetto..... I have a mediumish voice, not deep, but not particularly high..... My natural singing voice is higher than my speaking voice -- kinda Neil Youngish...... Although I hate to admit it, I can sing (not very well) as high as Prince in Kiss, or Michael Jackson in Billie Jean.....

My voice is kinda synth-pop (if I could sing well enough), which is kind of a piss-off, cause iff I try to sing old-school grunge, I just sound like Scott Stapp...... FUCK THAT.... - Thu, 13 Mar 2003 1:04am

Anonymous falsetto is not all that tough, although creating a full sound while singing in head voice is more difficult than when you sing normally.

the difficult part is bridging your head voice and your chest voice in order to be able to sing continuously from one into the next. most people (most guys- i think??) have a natural break in which they can sing neither falsetto or normally- and must overcome this w/ practice.

i would be interested to hear other people's take on this- can some guys just naturally sing from chest into head voice? I know i couldn't for, like, a year of trying to sing. - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 3:02pm
michael That's a funny topic. I actually like to sing falsetto. I prtobably sing better falsetto then tenor. If I'm singing a line I dont have any problem going from normal to falsetto, but for some reason it's harder to go from falsetto to normal. - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 7:39pm

if you can sing falsetto well then u are hot. - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 7:51pm
musicalala you can actually seriosly damage your voice pushing out your head voice without some practice as you tend to constrict your vocal chords in trying to reach the notes without proper breath support. Ever wonder why you lose your voice after screaming a lot? You scream in your head voice. Practice however can really increase your range of sound and fillout the thinness of your head voice tremendously. Try lying on your back with a book on your stomach/diaphram and breathe into your belly and let it out slowly, bouncing the book on a count of 1,2,3,4 and repeat.
p.s. Jimmy Sommerville rocks and was one of my formative musical influences. Good Luck! - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 7:54pm

I've got an alright falsetto, sort of in a Beck 'Debra' way..

As for the castration, you're thinking of a castrato, which maintains the soprano or contralto range of his voice. http://www.m-w.com - use it!! - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 7:59pm
Anonymous The secret for switching from chest voice (normal) to head voice (falsetto) is to sing softly in chest voice and switch low in your register. If you try to switch when belting out high notes, you'll hear a crack, which is okay too. Falsetto's easy, and if you find it hard it's just cause you haven't developped it. It takes yeeeears to train to sing. - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 9:22pm
Anonymous To be a castrato you have to snip the boys before the voice changes and even then you are not garuanteed that your voice will sound any good. Kids don't try this at home. - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 11:34pm

I 'spose it's not actual falsetto but I dig how Thomas Shields can sing those RunCicoRun melodies sometimes with a voice that sounds positively girl-like at times. This is while playing the drums and his keyboard simultaneously. He's really quite good? - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 2:49am
