Well, my friends.

This would be my first completely random post on this wonderful message board. It is on the subject of ones personal gains in the way of money.

All of us have come into a situation where their debt, and the interest assumed by having that debt completely exceeds their ability to make money.

I am currently in that situation, but luckily I am a resourceful individual, and have made ways to prevent utter failure. However, I believe a little story is in order, just to give everyone a little background, and a lot of things to think about before the decide to get into a situation where their future depends on the corrispondance of others.

I started a website a while back, probably some time in november that was only a demonstration of cool technology. It involved several webcams, a little news page and some goofy antics. I was, that the time employed at PCI Computers on hillside (I would not recommend taking your computer there as of late, because their business practices seem to be less than dependable). I was working for 9 hours a day, and came home and worked on this project.

Obviously, streaming live video from your home requires a certain measure of bandwidth. So we quickly placed a little link on our page to let the average individual who came across our site (and there were quite a few of them) to toss us a few bucks, in exchange for some entertainment (we are exibitionists, so it was often in the avenue of nakedness). The funds generated were quickly piped into improving our setup. Interesting and reasonably innovative ideas like this (when done well) are picked up quickly by investors, and soon we had an advanced broadcast solution, and a high bandwidth server; funded by a delightfully charitable third party.

Eventually I was working 12 or even 15 hour days. I would come home, eat, and begin work on our website. I learned quite a few things about design; and to this day I am not entirely happy with the appearance of it (am also rather anal about design).

This work schedule soon started to wear on me. After all, I was required to entertain people as well, throw parties, and generally do a lot of really crazy things with a diminishing time for important things like; sleep.

I began to become more and more interested in the prospect that this site, if properly maintained and directed, could become my job; as long as I was financially stimulated by the occasional web design job. I got a few contracts, and made up my mind to quit my day job.

It was a great day. I gave my notice of one day, (I was on contract. Let that be a reminder to all employers who choose this avenue) and never came back.

It became slowly apparent that this was not going to work, it took a few weeks, but as I ran low on funds due to living costs, and coupled with the moronic purchase of a miniDV cam (I was, and still am planning on producing amusing, and pornographic features), I realized I would need to get a job otherwise I would not be able to pay my rent, or any other bill for that matter.

100 resumes later (Yes, I gave out one hundered resumes), I have about 4 developing job offers that may or may not help me find employment. (I am an excellent technician and graphics \ web designer if you are interested)

Still, I had these mounting expenses to deal with (In the range of about 2500 dollars) and had a few options to go with. I sought out the help of my local friendly pawn broker... Who wanted to give me 250$ on a 1200$, 3 week old, piece of equipment. I then thought of asking my parents for help (I am 19 years old, and still slightly attached umbilical wise), but then I realized what would be the correct way of doing this.

Consolidation Loan.

Few people consider these. You see, there are these companies who realize that you are in debt for a reason, and that placing insane interest rates on a loan to pay of other debts would only ensure that they made more people unhappy. I talked to my friendly *company removed to avoid this whole thing looking like a plug* branch, filled out an application for my debts, and was told I would recieve a call telling me if I was approved the next day. (The next day is tomorrow)

If this fails, I will ask my father to co-sign for it. And it will not fail.

Either way, this story has 3 morals:

a) Never quit your job unless you have a source of income absolutely assured afterwards. This is even worse if you have people who depend on you to live. Scrambling for a job at the last moment has to be the most horrible and demoralizing thing in the entire world.

b) No matter how good something sounds, if you are given the choice between letting it go or taking a risk to make progress with it; expect that it will fail. This doesn't mean don't take that risk, just make absolutely sure that you can gracefully deal with it failing.

c) There is always an answer to anything related to money. If you are having a money problem in some way, then chances are there are many other people having this problem. This means that there is a maket for it, and concequently a company somewhere that is willing to help you out in exchange for reasonable compensation(in my situation, this comes in the form of an interest payment).

If you've read all of this, thanks. If you have any questions or comments then please feel free to e-mail me via [email protected] - Tue, 25 Feb 2003 9:06pm
Anonymous I have a question for you: why do you think anyone would pay to see that? I could go downtown and pick up a panhandler.. it'd be almost the same thing. - Wed, 26 Feb 2003 10:31pm
Anonymous hey adrian.....whatz your website address again? - Thu, 27 Feb 2003 12:56pm
sadsadsad Fuckin sad Adrian. Who would waste there time? From what i saw it was freakin gross, no interest whatsoever was generated. So what if you are an exibitionists, you need more than that!!! All home-based bussinesses should start out as hobby, something that you are good at. It takes time, often years to get your own ideas running and since you are bitchin so soon, well, fuck thats sad. Nice of you to join reality.

Did i say that your site really sucked! You are all a bunch of lost sickly nothings. Lets all sit around and look like udder idiots. Ewwwwwwwwww - Thu, 27 Feb 2003 1:37pm

He was hoping he could cash in on the billion dollar internet porn scene. Didn't happen so we get to hear how much it put him into debt and how he attempts to get out of debt. Guess he just didn't get enough responses to his prattle on his own site so he came here to give us all the details. Like anyone with an IQ higher than a parboiled potatoe couldn't figure a consolidation loan out all on their own. Oh and Adrian, lay off the blow when you work. Trying to talk to someone that's speaking at 300 WPM is a task most wouldn't undertake. - Thu, 27 Feb 2003 3:07pm
