Ya, shawmail is usually where it goes weird. Otherwise I have awesome luck with Shaw internet stuff, and always have.

Shaw beats the living puke out of Telus. I just can't believe that company. Anyone who tells you otherwise should be shot with a ball of their own shit! - Tue, 31 Oct 2006 8:09pm

I'd prefer using Telus or Rogers a 100x anyday of the given week, over Shaw.

They even limit people on band-width.. Plus if Shaw feels like they want to take control of your email and 'NNB' your whole email account? They'll erase your whole email account and tell you one of their higher-up, watercooling exec's reserved your email name.

And Shaw's great telephone subscription service- (it's like talking into windstorm...) - Tue, 31 Oct 2006 8:56pm Edited: Tue, 31 Oct 2006 8:58pm

Shaw is way better to deal with than the likes of Telus. My stuff rarely goes down, and when it does I can get a real person on the phone.

I've never noticed a windstorm on my phone either. - Tue, 31 Oct 2006 10:38pm

Why Shaw Staff are where they are... is because they didn't meet up to basic standards of personal etiquette in pre-job screening applicant, requirements to work at Telus'.

The reason why the majority of the Shaw Staff that work there, non-union@ $12.00 bux a hr?

All Shaw personell should be taken out into the back parking lot and placed into a flaming pit of charcoal fluid...

Shaw are the Marshall Applegates of Cable Companies- labeled a cult by any standard. (Even if their owner built one of the world's largest skateboard parks) Shaw is an entirely substandard wanna'-be mega-corporation... blah, blah, blah'nuff said! - Wed, 1 Nov 2006 1:13am

Strange, it didn't go down for me, but that isn't saying much (I'm over on 5th street in Victoria). Non-Union @ $12 per hour?!? They hiring?!? Oddly enough, none of the staff there have a clue what's going on, this includes TV as well as Internet. - Wed, 1 Nov 2006 1:18am

Hey, Griphin the big bux workin' for Shaw is if you start on as an 'Apprentice Technician' (I think it's around $15.00 to start Union benefits too) - Wed, 1 Nov 2006 2:19am

My shaw cable internet connection has NEVER gone down. Ever.

I'm on my computer a ton, since I use it at work and for work at home and I have never had a connection problem.

Also the tech support representitives I've spoken with are all professional, polite and knowledgeable.
They beat basically any other over-the-phone help I've ever experienced.

Just yeaterday I called with a question about altering webspace.
They could have told me how to do it (like most help I've recieved via the phone from other companies) but instead the rep was proactive and did it all for me, entusiastically, in about a minute.

I deal with fixing and installing internet for my clients all the time, for years, and hands down Shaw is WAY better than Telus. Faster, easier to hook up, more consistent, not to mention Telus have a nasty habit of clamping down on popular torrent sharing ports.

One good thing about Telus internet.. I make more money from people with it.

Recently I ditched my Telus phone service and went to Vonage.. Now I just need an alternate cell phone plan, and then anything labeled 'Telus' will forever more = profit to me :)

Shaw tech support are alot better too. And nicer. (ie: disconnected for late bill, call at 2am, promise to pay in 2 weeks, instantly back on every time.. not that I dont pay my bills hehe ) - Wed, 1 Nov 2006 11:59am Edited: Wed, 1 Nov 2006 12:02pm

Telus: Worst Company Ever! Lets be fair and say: Worst Customer Service Ever!

Yes, I do have an unnatural hate for them. There are some services I use at work which cannot be obtained elsewhere as yet, but rest assure once there is, goodbye.

I use a $80.00/month Shaw connection as a backup to my hyper-expensive Fibreoptic-based Telus internet connection. Every time I am forced to switch the routing over to Shaw (Because of some BC-wide Telus outage), I contemplate leaving it there. Alas, the pipe is just not large enough for the entire company to use.

When we're talking mobile Phones/Blackberry, I always use Rogers. I would throw away a phone which required the Telus CDMA/1x network. Good luck with access to the Southern Gulf Islands, forget about travelling to say: the US, Europe, Asia with a CDMA phone. Telus and Bell will not admit that GSM/GPRS is the dominant network.

I switched to Shaw for Voice at home. No problems whatever.

Shaw is not perfect either, nobody is. They do try hard and they understand the benefit of treating you well. Perhaps once there is no more competition, maybe they will become uncaring assholes, but until then competition is good for business. - Wed, 1 Nov 2006 1:37pm Edited: Wed, 1 Nov 2006 1:40pm

hey hey what's up! this has been really interesting to read back...seems like i should have said SHAW versus TELUS what do you think LOLZ? i have the digi phone/cable/internet package myself and its been great/cute installer dude too when he came over to install the phone 1 year ago now i think...seriously got 2 agree with the majority TELUS did suck and my phone bills were harsh as I had 2 teenagers with buds in van and alberta and nova scotia and me too calling van, and then all the extra little charges...ya I am defintely happy with shaw...peace & love dudes! - Wed, 1 Nov 2006 3:13pm

Mines good, Shaw offers more speed for the money hands down, telus can't come close to the transfer rates I get: 10mbps down, 1 up - that is insane for $50 a month, I use the net for work so I did lots of comparing. - Wed, 1 Nov 2006 4:08pm

Oh yeah?! (You guys are being jacked.) I get 17-20mbps d/l's[avg- with tangible access] and 4-1/2 up mines only $34.00! Telus sux, and so does Shaw, but Shaw sux worse, cuz because some vampire exec. stole my email addy! And then some weirdo, who seemed to be paying more attention to me, than processing my payment, didn't actually process my payment. (So that's when I switched) Everytime I go into Shaw, the counter staff guys and girls are always drooling over me and wasting my time... (I know I sound conceited, but really, it's how it is with me there..) - Wed, 1 Nov 2006 6:41pm

Okay man~ I'm calmed down, (Telus is faster) and neither has my Telus went down..(except for the one time that the entire Telus System last May blew a fuse out of the whole neighbourhood..) - Wed, 1 Nov 2006 11:10pm

Want to know your average speed. Go here: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Connect to the Seattle server and post your speed. Telus will be a fixed speed, Shaw will fluctuate through the day.

My current speed right this moment (Shaw) is 8387 kbps download. I average between 5000-9000 kbps, but at really busy times Ive been as low as 2000-3000 kbps, but never for long.

And for those who are tempted by Shaws Digi Phone, look into http://www.vonage.ca first, its cheaper for the same technology. - Fri, 3 Nov 2006 12:36pm

Anyhow, I'm wondering what kind of computer you have that takes this kind of cable whipping ability.. I still have the option to go back to Shaw anytime I want, but why would I want to?

My computer's not going to be downloading shit any faster than it already is.. - Fri, 3 Nov 2006 6:19pm

well actually we are running Shaw Extreme now, but before we upgraded we were averaging 4000-5000kbps with regular Shaw, slow times were the same, about 2000-3000kbps. - Fri, 3 Nov 2006 7:30pm

Hey Mace,

Are you, like, 65 years old? You're always, like, "meah! i'm mad! everyone's an ass! get off my lawn!"

I have to consider that when someone complains about the world constantly, perhaps it has more to do with them than the world.

Only something that my 'Dockers' would only be able to answer, since I'm the one who is wearing the pants on this thread!

Now, if you'll excuse me..

I have a game of Bridge to attend!

FYI- any of you who think just because the download capacity is 10x what the reader says, doesn't mean you'll be 'downloading that fast'; remember you're only downloading as fast as the connection speed to the file or the other computer's connection speed allows you to. - Tue, 7 Nov 2006 12:52pm
