Yup i hear ya. I am paying a kid 11$ an hour simply to hang out in my home when the wife is visiting her family, just so i can have someone there to play with the dog, so i can work. The kid sits here plays Xbox, watches movies and eats whatever the hell he wants to. When the dog pisses me off, i send the dog out with my "puppysitter".

Fuckin Government and their ability to haze the public into what is consider respectable pay. Employers want respect, but there sure as hell dont respect back with $$$$.

Take a look around, there are JOB WANTED signs everywhere. if you are an able body, and can swing a hammer or shovel, then you can easily make way more finding work for a construction company. Even as a sweeper. - Wed, 31 May 2006 6:42pm Edited: Wed, 31 May 2006 6:42pm

The other thing is, Pierce, that before the government got in on it everyone was working for damn near nothing in tight job markets. But I agree that quite often emplyers mistake "minimum wage" for "maximum wage". - Thu, 1 Jun 2006 9:09am

I hear ya. There is a catch 22 happening which i wasnt thinking about when i ranted off. I have just quit my job. Been doing it for 10 years. It pisses me off to see employers want qualified dependable employees, while the employess are not given qualified and dependable pay.

However, the Catch 22.........If minimum wage was raised, then the people who make income like i used to until i freaked out and quit, will need more $$$$ to keep them there. The the economy crashes because GNP is not reflective to the amount of salaries paid.

When i was 12 (18 years ago) i as makin 4.25$ an hour. I was rich as hell, but i didnt have a single bill.

Now i am a FULLY trained, 10 years experienced in my field, and i am getting job offers for 12$ an hour (MAX) which after inquiring into it, you need to be on the job for a year to get that money. One employer even said he will be paying me a "training" pay of 8$ an hour.

My advice........Construction. Swing a fukin hammer. They need ya. And from what i am seeing, they will actually pay you. Luckily for me after 10 years i have a tiny severance package to help while i am looking for work.

How about all of us musicians start a business, like landscaping,,,,,shoot the shit about metal all day, and instead of letting huge companies nickel and dime us. We pay us what we NEED. I am a business man myself, and i would hire Metal/Punk heads anyday to do my work, and if i had a business i would pay the fuckin potheads a good pay. Something reflective to the actual costs of living in Victoria.

we can start http://www.metalheadmetalworks.com

I am a metal worker. Anyone else? - Thu, 1 Jun 2006 10:29am

Pierce, that's a brilliant idea.

My Dad and I are in the process of starting a business (which is an adaptation of his existing one) that would (among other things) help people sort out their vision and plan for setting up stuff like that. Ideally for people who're pissed off with what's out there and looking to start something new. We're still in the development stage right now, and half-looking for people to use as guinea pigs. If you'd be interested in any of that kind of service cheap (and are willing to be a guinea pig), shoot me an e-mail. - Thu, 1 Jun 2006 12:40pm
