t. burrfoot Here's a question for the amp experts:

I play a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. The clean channel's fine, but the distorted channels crack in and out.

I already took her down to L&M to try new tubes, and no change. Cracked 'er open, and no loose wires I can see.

Any suggestions? - Sat, 14 Dec 2002 12:29pm

Oh, just in case you don' t know where Bill's shop is, it' s Victoria Vintage Guitars & Amps 2005 Fernwood, behind the George & Dragon - Sat, 14 Dec 2002 1:06pm
Anonymous thanks for the tip - Sat, 14 Dec 2002 1:27pm
Virge tube amps usually have to be re-biased after you put new tubes in them, that may be the problem. - Sat, 14 Dec 2002 3:08pm
josh check your preamp tubes
try new ones. preamp tubes cause that crackling/cutting out probably 80% of the time - Sat, 14 Dec 2002 3:42pm

if you already tried new preamp tubes, check the components in the bias circuit (resistors, caps, etc) for the preamp channel thats acting up. The problem will most likely be there. - Sat, 14 Dec 2002 3:48pm
t. burrfoot Thanks for the help. I went to Olde Thyme guitars, and it's no more. Same with that other guitar shop that was across the road. Too bad, they were nice guys. - Sat, 14 Dec 2002 5:07pm
