I'm looking for feedback... positive or negative about different kinds of bass effects.I currently have a very uncluttered signal chain. Bass to amp.I would like to add some colors to my pallet.Distortion, chorus ,delay, and maybe an envelope filter.I'm leaning towards EBS stomp boxes.I haven't been happy with the all in one digital multi effect units. However I haven't tried one lately.I know sound is subjective but any feedback would help narrow the playing field. ie. This piece of gear sucks ass or I can't live without my .... Thanks - Sat, 25 Sep 2010 4:55pm

I've been using a modded Boss GT-8 Guitar processor into a DBX compressor into a QSC power amp into two 2x10 cabs for about five years now and don't think I've had a nicer rig.

I don't really use the GT-8 for much effects, mostly for amp and cabinet simulation, but I've gotten some pretty crazy tones out of it in my funk band.

The modifications I performed on the GT-8 consisted mostly of eliminating capacitors out of the analog audio chain to extend the bass response of the unit. Other than that it's pretty stock. - Sat, 25 Sep 2010 6:32pm

For distortion, I suggest an Ibanez Tube Screamer. The ideal vintage for thes eis mid-eighties. No Ibanex Tube Screamer sucks, though. I specify this one because many distortion pedals kill much of the low frequencies. Not this one.

For any other effects, go down to Bass Northwest in Seattle. They sell nothing but basses and bass gear. The staff are well qualified to help you find a pedal that will give you what you want.

Otherwise, I suggest that you make sure you really do want any effects. Maybe an upgrade in your bass or your amp or speaker cabinet(s) or cables could yield a more satisfying result. In my experience the right bass through the right amp gear makes effects unnecessary. - Mon, 27 Sep 2010 2:07pm
