I have 2 CRT tv sets. One collecting dust, and the other in the bedroom. But the tv I use most is my LCD LG tv (for monitor/and HD Cable) And I am noticing a lot more and more, that people are leaving there old sets on the curb..and next thing you know ,someone has got themselves a free tv.

My question is, who still uses CRT(cathode ray tube)televisions ....? Do you? - Tue, 25 May 2010 1:46pm

Hell yah, free tv's are the only way to go, but then I have better things to spend money on than some huge TV that will be obsolete in 2 years anyhow. - Tue, 25 May 2010 3:51pm

Kind of like pc's...I'm going to be doing a new build soon and this is what I was thinking. With saving and splurging involved.

>Corsair Obsidian Series 800D Full Tower Case
>EVGA X58 FTW3 ATX LGA1366 DDR3 3PCIE-16 PCI-E1 2PCI SLI SATA3 USB3.0 Dual GBLAN Motherboard
>Intel Core i7 920 Quad Core Processor LGA1366 2.66GHZ Bloomfield 8MB 4.8GT/S
>Corsair XMS3 Dominator TR3X6G1600C8D 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1600 CL 8-8-8-24 Core i7 Memory Kit
>Antec Truepower Quattro 1200W Power Supply ATX V2.2 EPS12V 20/24PIN Active PFC 80PLUS 2X8PIN PCI-E
>Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA3 6GB/S 7200RPM 64MB Cache 3.5IN Dual Proc Hard Drive OEM
>LG BH10LS30 Bluray Writer 10X BD-R 16X DVD-RW Lightscribe SATA Retail Box
>Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H50 High Performance CPU Cooler System
>EVGA GeForce GTX 470 Fermi 607MHZ 1280MB GDDR5 2XDVI MINI-HDMI PCI-E Video Card

This of course will be subject to change over the year or so it will take to build it.
what do you think? - Tue, 25 May 2010 6:54pm Edited: Tue, 25 May 2010 6:58pm

I'd go for a slightly better processor than that. it's usually the first part to become obsolete, why not do most of the splurging on mobo/processor? go six core! yeah!

but as for TVs, I'm sticking with my two CRTs. they were free, they're pretty big, and suit my purposes of tv-watching and video game-playing. any console older than the newest generation just looks "right" on a CRT, I can't imagine playing a NES on some new TV. and everything looks and sounds fine the way it is for me, why change it? I'd consider upgrading if it was free or very little money. but the current prices... that money would be better spent other ways for me.

but computers are a different story. I see the need to upgrade. you know, increased performance, being able to run new software, new games, blah blah blah. I'm due for an upgrade soon. I usually lurk ncix for deals. where are you looking for your parts, grim? also I'm super stoked that you're not joining the overpriced macbook masses. - Tue, 25 May 2010 8:12pm Edited: Tue, 25 May 2010 8:13pm

Well considering I am not rich and will work hard to get these parts, they're pretty pricey as well(ncix). The motherboard I posted is new sata3 usb3.0 so it's should be good for a little while.I look for deals too,but thing don't always fall into place at the right time. When I save up the $ for something ,it's already outdated. So I just have too pick something and go with that .keeping in mind deals and newer products in my price range($300-$400 a part) ,to try and keep up with the constant change is a headache.I know I will bye something and the next week there will be a sale or newer better product. - Wed, 26 May 2010 12:56pm Edited: Wed, 26 May 2010 1:27pm

Re: CRT's. I've got a 27" Toshiba TV sitting in my house in Chinatown that I was thinking of giving to VV. If anybody on here wants it, FREE - just pick it up. - Wed, 26 May 2010 9:58pm

Don't forget to pricematch at ncix, Grim. Even if it's on sale. Just use shopbot.ca and search with the part number. Can ususally save about 10-15% that way. Haven't had a pricematch refused from there, yet. And you don't need a 1200w PSU for that build. Something in the 800w range is more than enough. - Thu, 27 May 2010 6:49am

The reason I am going for the corsair obsidian series 800D full tower case, is the future proof aspect.I would like to try my hand at three way SLI,or "tri sli"so the power supply mentioned would suit. But this thing is going to take a bit to put together so ,the parts will go in there prospective places when purchased.I would have thought this evident.

I have price matched in the past with NCIX ,but for some strange reason the part was not in the order I made.Put in an email and got the part(case fan) with free shipping the next week. - Thu, 27 May 2010 6:53pm Edited: Thu, 27 May 2010 7:00pm
