Music is a strange thing, and I should know, cause I have WAY TOO MUCH MUSIC. I hunt down local demos of bands which don't exist, I give away copies and people get stoked. It brings them back to a part of their lives which has good memories associated with it. I collect every possible local band demo which came out and then try to figure out why I do this in the first place. The more music I have, the happier I am, cept when you have over 5,000 CDs you can never figure out what to listen to half the time :) I go to gigs and spend far too much cash, then make an idiot out of myself afterwards, cause I was STOKED how good the band was. Music has this effect on people like myself.

I guess I quoted it well when I said, "Gigs are my mental therapy". Sure beats the hell out of doin' anti-depressants huh? - Fri, 28 May 2004 5:22am

Personally music is like religion or politics for some. And we all know what ends up happening when we end up talking about that shit. - Fri, 28 May 2004 12:02pm

I think it's enjoyable to be objective and have an opinion - an opinion that goes beyond the simplistic "I hate this, and I hate that".

Admittedly I do enjoy sending Nickelback hate mail and waiting for the responses in my inbox, but really it's the analyzing of why bad music effects us the way it does that interests me. I just think for every angry comment about a lame band and why there so terrible should be counterbalanced by a positive comment that endorses a good band that deserves it.

If anybody here has read reviews on brand x ( http://www.brandxmedia.ca/album_reviews.htm ) You've found that I don't give everybody praise (ie. Jillian Anne - Neverland, Crop Circle - Mexican Cock Fight) like most complacently written magazines do (ie. Exclaim).

I don't look forward to listening to a bad CD I get in the mail. Who would? but I'd feel pretty lame not having an honest opinion - even if it does result in angry emails from certain artists and managers.

Bad music is everywhere - so when you find something that is great it's certainly worth it. - Fri, 28 May 2004 12:45pm

I find there is almost always something interesting even in bad music...

Like Griphin, I try to track down indie bands first discs or demos or whatever. If I am a used record store (lyles is fun, Charlies in Vancouver was great), I've been known to but a CD based soley on the cover if it some band I have never heard of. I take it home and wonder wow... some indie band in Wherever really thought they'd be rock stars with this, released one disc then broke up and now I am listening to it, years later in Victoria.

I found this record for this old group from Remo Nevada at a pawn shop in New West that has the raddest cover of The Greatest American Hero theme song... well worth the 99 cents!

Did you ver hear that Langley School Kids Project disc? Became real popular a few years ago on college radio. It was discovered here in Victoria at antique or junk shop by a radio DJ from New Jersey. He took it home and fired it up and it became huge (albeit briefly)! Funny... - Fri, 28 May 2004 5:52pm
